Title: How important is Branding when you are just starting out?
Post by: Machine on April 16, 2025, 11:39:10 PM
When launching a product, there is always that debate about whether you should focus on making that product better or spend more time and resources building the brand.
By branding,I mean everything about your logo, packaging, down to the way people around you feel whenever they hear about your product or services. Some of my friends Iconversed with believe that branding comes first before the product while others believes that you should worry about the branding after you have figured out how the product works.
As someone trying to build something from scratch, I am really torn on this issue. So what do you think guys, how early should one begin worrying a out his/her product's branding.

If a product doesn't solve a problem or bring value, no brand will save the day. People may fall for the pretty wrapper once, but if the content is weak, they won't come back.
It’s like with travel companies — you might be drawn in by slick visuals or marketing, but if the ride isn’t smooth, the service is poor, or the schedule unreliable, no logo can fix that. Take coachamerica (https://coachamerica.com/) for example: their strength isn't just in branding but in delivering a consistently dependable experience. That's the kind of value that keeps people coming back, even without the flashiest design.

I believe that your product or service is more important than branding. I think it would follow if you have a solid foundation, and it could yield better success, in the long term, too. It could be a balance, or do it along the way.

Both are important IMO.

You can start with either one, depending on what feels right for your situation. If your product works well and solves a problem, you can focus on improving that first. People will notice the quality. On the other hand, starting with a strong brand can help you stand out and get attention, even before your product is perfect. Both are important, so it’s really about balancing them based on where you are in your process.

On point, but one can get a start out depending how determined and committed or consistent about your product, you can even start out even without the help of any brand, people like it when one is hard working and build their foundation on their own products, it can even help them gets more sales than when they are being helped by a brand.
Although it might take a little time but doesn’t mean it turn out for good, but brand can make one go viral bring people attention but it won’t bring more sales compare when you do it yourself, though it’s also a good idea if one feels it’s better to start out with the help of brands.

Before you start up any business that involves product production, you have to make sure that you've mastered it behind the scenes before trying to turn it into a business. This is simply because there is no second chance for a first impression, and if you decide to keep developing your products while you're already marketing them, you will lose a lot of first-time customers because they will never return since your product is not yet in the finished phase but you are still trying things.

When you have a great product and you decide to go into business, having great branding and packaging alongside it will help your business develop into something that is sustainable and long-lasting. Never underestimate the power of starting properly and well, especially in business, where there is a lot of competition.

i believe that the product should come first because if you dedicate time and resources into building a brand and less time in the product what makes you think anyone will even be interested in your product if it was not good? there are products that have a name but no one cares because the product is not good while some products can be unlabeled and yet people will keep looking for it

Product should comes first, people buy the product then it will bring positive or negative value to the brand depends on the user feedback and spending too much money for the brand alone will not work when you just start things off, whereas the brands which are already in the field and everybody knows them very well still they spend a huge amount of promotion of brand as well as their product which is to keep the customers on the hook.
