It's high time to address the mega threads that is already filled with enough replies and nothing more to discuss about still people are commenting on the threads which leads to obvious spam so I feel we should lock those threads to encourage users to engage in the quality discussions rather than beating the dead horse. The number of pages/replies can be subjective, but anything past 10 pages has nothing to offer.

While I don't disagree the mega threads are awful, we need to first create the strong incentive for new topics, or which we have a dire quantity of new amounts (not enough to sustain having topics <10 pages). I suspect that locking topics with 10+ pages, if done so automatically as it were, would be locking half of the forum topics at present, and thus would likely only serve to half the number of active topics by default. New topics unfortunately do not create themselves, and locking megas won't create them either. Hopefully, once the new initiative from President Freemind (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=327104.0) is properly initiated, the you initially proposed, of +karma for new topics and +karma for discovering them, then we can reconsider what to do about these old megas.

It depends on the style of discussion. When every new one in the topic answers the first post, then mega threads became monstrous. And when there's a thread of discussion, it can naturally go on further and further and breaking it can be worse than having a long topic. ::)

Exactly, this is more the point here. For example speculation threads "Will coin X reach price Y", when Y has already been reached, should be locked without any further consider. Likewise basic questions in beginners that have been sufficiently answered. But some topics do development in their discussion beyond just replying to the OP. I'd personally suggest, if implementatable, to reduce points for quoting OP / increase points for quoting of other participants. Though users don't care that much about points anyway, but it could help.

-karma for quoting the opening post on the 3d page of discussion for disrespect to other users, +karma for good answers in the ongoing thread discussion. But this depends on users: if they want more natural discussion, they can drop a hint... ::)

It's not just quoting the first posts, there are certain users who just quote the entire previous quotes and the following one does the same and this keeps goes and and it's called as nested quoting if I am not wrong and nobody really reads those threads. unfortunately people does that a lot on bitcointalk and carried over here as well.
Oftopic: Can I issue 0% warning for such users rather than dealing with -Karma?

This problem exists even on BTT, and locking these threads won't solve it.
Some campaign managers may impose restrictions, such as prohibiting paid posts after the first 100 replies, but I think it's better to contribute ideas for new threads than to impose restrictions.
Perhaps earning an extra $3 by creating three threads per week would be beneficial.

Answered here (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=330170.msg1766218#msg1766218) for the benefit of other mods, and notifying you as telegram bot doesn't cover that section. Simple answer: no, but unofficial warnings in threads and -karma is ok.
