Title: What is the best thing to do with tokens gotten from airdrops?
Post by: Gposas on May 05, 2025, 01:04:50 AM
During the period Telegram Based airdrops was reigning last year, we saw the likes of different airdrops ranging from NOT, DOGS, HAMSTER, TOMARKET and so on.

I was a lover of these airdrop games then and I got rewarded from some, but the first was DOGS which I followed up a little after NOT has passed. After the TGE and distribution, I got a few dollar worth of DOGS and they successfully listed on CEX.
I was now hearing rumors from my fellow airdroppers that the token will surge in price and I shouldn't sell mine and I was carried away as a novice and all my hope and mind was that I will keep the token untill it appreciates. Instead of seeing an appreciation in price, my DOGS was depreciating and depreciating until it turned to $5 in my wallet. And these guys were still telling me to keep Holding that the surge is about to happen. I was fed up and decided to sell the little left.

Few months later $HMSTR listed and distributed their token to airdroppers. Having learned from my own experience, I decided to sell out all my airdrop rewards immediately I received mine and the token also experience decrease in price.

So in a nutshell, is it advisable that all airdrop tokens should be sold at the time of Listing or there are some that is likely to see a price pump after listing?

So greedy huh? Even when you see the tokens distributed through the airdrop are finished, and you see it is listed on the exchange, someone will want more, namely wanting a higher price... this does take a little longer, because it is required to hold again and there is still a possibility of getting a smaller reward...

When the price has gone up, someone will definitely only sell a part and he hopes again to get a higher price, and higher, and so on... it should be that listening to other people to predict is not a must... you just have to keep believing in your own decision... if you are too influenced by other people, then in the future you will have difficulty gaining your confidence. Make the airdrop your best experience too, so whether it fails or succeeds, make sure it is the best version of your own decision, not the influence of others.

Of course, especially the ones that you get from free airdrops, which means that there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of other people who got the same tokens like you, and once they all dump their tokens in the market, it's going to lose a lot of value, and since such projects barely gain any serious investors or people barely trade them like normal cryptocurrencies, they barely gain value after the listing because people use them only for the airdrops and once they are done, they abandon them.

You can check all the coins or tokens that were available on Telegram and did their airdrops when this was all trending, none of them have gained any traction after their initial listing because people aren't interested in trading them, they don't get any trading volume at all, so holding them is almost useless in 99% of the cases.

One thing that every crypto investor should be aware of is that when you are into newly launched tokens, be it airdrops or those you bought but most especially airdropped token. You should not have a long term hold target in mind. That's simply because these tokens are meant to make quick money for it's developers and after launch they all take out what they've profited from their investment of which the market ends up dumping. So you as an airdroper should as we take your profits immediately they are launched.

The best decision one can make as a airdrop farmer is selling your allocation immediately token is listed. I almost fell in the “holders trap” when MAJOR was launched, a lot of people even influencers kept saying “hodl…it will pump to $3”. I held for some time and studied its movement, luckily for me i sold at ATH, think I would buy back at ATL but no this token kept dipping without looking back. I checked the chart few days ago and price at the lowest lows, i didn’t expect it.

So, it’s best to sell at launch because everyone wants to take profits and the holders will be the exit liquidity. You can only hold when the token has a solid backing or utility and nowadays it’s so rare and if you find a solid one, you can consider holding a portion that you can be comfortable with risking.

You have to understand that the crypto market is now flooded with so many pump and dump projects today. I haven't really heard much about new airdrops, or it seem like no new project has being able to get the hype. I have a friend who had the same idea of holding his own share of the DOGS, but was forced to sell far below the best price that was presented to him. These project owners clearly knows what they are doing, and how to perform their pump and dump scheme effortlessly.

Even though i didn't participate in the Hamster airdrop, i consider it to be one of the biggest airdrop scams.
The airdrop literally had so many phases/levels, and the end result turned out to be what so many participant never expected.

So, my advice is, when you have the opportunity to participate in any airdrop that turns out to be a bit impressive, don't fail to cash out immediately, since majority of what we get these days are all pump and dump.

There are several users who sell 100% of the tokens they receive immediately

My strategy is to sell 50% of the tokens on the TGE, keep the other 50% and analyze whether it's worth selling or not
This way I can take advantage of both the downside and upside scenarios

It's difficult to know whether a project will prosper or not
Some tokens still have good values, such as Hyperliquid, Layer 0 and Solayer, but others just lose value day after day and a good airdrop can be worth almost nothing in a few weeks.

If you're part of the lucky winners who have received some airdrop tokens, then sell them immediately, because most of these tokens often drop drastically after they were launched and there is not assurance they will rise to where they started, don't ever make a mistake of holding a token for long for any reason, you could regret on taking this decision because they mostly fall after thier launch date.

As other members here said, when airdrops are distributed, there will be many airdrop recipients who may have the same amount. Especially if the price is small, usually the amount will be very large.

And when listing, I personally will choose to sell it all as soon as possible while there is still a chance. Indeed, there are usually times when the tokens must be frozen first by the developers to allow their investors to trade in the market. So, after all that is done and we have made it possible to sell it, I will do it.

Because, most of these tokens will not last long in the market and are not suitable for the long term.

The hunters' decisions also depend on their assessment of the project's potential. If that project has a good solution and is backed by large funds, then I will hold the tokens until the peak of the uptrend. Conversely, if the project is created irresponsibly, I will sell the tokens immediately after receiving the airdrop because I know the token price will continue to drop sharply in the future.

After a few airdrops, I've learned that if I continue to hold tokens with the expectations the project has created, others will sell their tokens, and I will be the one to suffer when that token price soon drops by 99%. Usually, from the time the airdrop campaign is organized until the rewards are received, the token price has already decreased significantly, and sometimes hunters only receive tokens worth 2 USD for their efforts over the past month.

That's true @Alone055, the concept is very obvious but at the early time, I couldn't consider it that way because of what I heard from various members who were amongst the number of airdroppers. Their words took a part in my decision because it was loud and I couldn't recall the saying Empty vessels makes the loudest noise. Though I was only trapped not selling my DOGS early.

It is very obvious that there are alot of people who are as desperate as me in making something out of the listed token prompting them to sell quickly and causing a price dump. I was lucky to sell my $HMSTR fast out of my own experience.

This is a practice for some people who expect security to be able to feel both ... however, this is usually applied by people who are less confident ... yes, usually 50% is sold at the beginning so that he does not miss FOMO, and to anticipate if the price later turns out to be no more expensive than the price when it was first listed ...

While the second 50% is also to anticipate, if there is a price explosion one day, at least the person is not just a spectator ... I know this is a favorite of many people, but this really makes someone a little more afraid to make a firm decision ... Yes, as long as you get the airdrop token, you have the right to do any strategy according to your risk profile.

Everything depends on the specific tokens...there are those that are only good while at the listing stage so you need to unload everything you got or risk losing some potential money in the process and there can be some exemption to the rule which is getting to be rarer these days. In other words, you would have more chance to make money with the tokens you received if you sold them at the early stage rather than wait later hoping the price will appreciate. We already know this...and the same thing is happening over and over again. Better sell as soon as you can than be sorry.

The problem is that it doesn't really matter how big these airdrop or altcoin claim they because at the latter run almost all these coins were created for the benefits of the project owner and that's why even if the project looks bigger and large like that of PI network the main aim is still to exploit from their customers. And when given the token greed still play a role because that's actually what tell's not to sell off the coins hoping that a few bucks will be added if held but some project infact almost all inside even the non base telegram casino games.

It is the method that give me the best results

You can do as much research on the project as you like and you still won't know if the price will rise or fall
Generally, it's more likely to fall, so I understand who sells the airdrops at the time of the TGE

Normally, the price will fall in the TGE no matter how good the project is especially if the project have an airdrop and distribute the rewards to participants before the TGE. So the best thing to do is to sell some of your holdings if you think the project is good, even the investors will do the same. If the project was really promising, later on after most of the tokens from hunters sold the price will start to increase. That is the fact in the TGE that I've noticed.

Sell on listing. Default to exit. No fantasy. Airdrops are not startup equity. These are disguised speculative liquidity injections. Your DOGS is textbook: hopium pumped by peers who were just as stupid, emotionally linked to "what ifs" instead of understanding the chart and market depth

You believe you are "missing out" by selling? Flip it: what if the actual loss is holding? The most airdrop tokens are coded decay: no value, inflated FDV, unlocked supply pending, 0% organic demand. There’s no logic in diamond-handing vapor. Does demand have any fundamental proof? What are you holding, actually, if no VCs, no buy pressure, no product, and a chart bleeding? Sell, breathe, then go on

Hold only if you see alpha that is backed up by real movement. Treat airdrops as found money rather than potential riches otherwise. You’re not HODLing, you’re delaying detachment
