Title: Has Ethereum contributed to scammed projects?
Post by: MelchiZedek on July 23, 2018, 06:15:57 PM
At first, one has to bootstrap a whole blockchain network before he could create a cryptocurrency or ICO. And creating, securing and maintaining a blockchain network from scratch is very hard. But Vitalik Buterin, cofounder of ethereum made ethereum in a way that one can create a blockchain application on top of it without actually having to bootstrap a blockchain network himself. Thereby making it easier to develop your own cryptocurrency or ICO. Do you think this has contributed to the many scammed projects we see today, since one does not need to work hard from scratch and also considering the fact that most of the ICOs are built on the Ethereum blockchain?

Kalau menurut saya Ethereum tidak ada scam alias penipuan karena Ethereum itu adalah partai besar buat apa Ethereum buat scam, Ethereum berkoalisi atau membuat proyek scam ya tidak mungkin

It's not really ethereum contributing to any scams as much as it is scams building on their platform.  Ethereum can't really do anything about that, and I'm sure there are some scams out there.  Just do your own research before investing and you should be fine.

Ethereum is not a scam or intentionally to take part of the scam but it was the bad people who use the Ethereum plarform to steal the hard earned money of the people are the real scam. Like this project https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@dimitrij/ethtrade-scam-part-ii-the-retrieving-of-funds-by-ethtrade-support-scam-scam-scam in which it steal millions of dollar worth of Ethereum and Bitcoin so review well a project before joining.

if we are in doubt, it would be better if our investment is waiting for a project that has succeeded in that way. that's a smaller risk

I don't think that ethereum contributed to scam projects just due to many scam ICOs be built on ethereum's platform out there, we can not blamed to ethereum due to this problem should we must be more carefully when choose the ICOs projects than blaming the ethereum.

Yes that is the weakness of ethereum that I saw during my study of crypto. all ico can make token freely using ethereum platform. examples such as airdrop that send 0 eth to get free tokens.

Those who do not want to work are just taking advantage of the wonderful technology of ethereum blockchain and scamming people. Ethereum in itself has not contributed to these scams in anyway. You can use the analogy of a gun in this case.

I don't think they contribute directly to the scam ICO. of course, there using the platform but it does meant that eth is responsible to the outcome of their project.

I'm sure Ethereum does not contribute to fraudulent projects, even if there is a Scam project running on the Ethereum Platform I guess it's not one of Ethereum's. because Ethereum only facilitates the project running on it, without knowing the project is deceiving or not.

I'm pretty sure they could do something about it if they chose to but it comes down to a censhorship type thing.. its bad press to have scam projects but its also bad press to be censoring projects in blockchain.. whatever you decide you will anger someone.  I think Ethereum should do a better job of eliminating projects that are obvious scams from their platform.. I trust Vitalik to know the difference.

Well I can see yes. Although the system is good and helpful we can not deny the fact that because of this the scammers is growing and many fake ICO were created and because of that many investors are being dissatisfied and some were convinced that crypto is scam. May team of ethereum will solve the problem to clean the crypto reputation.

This could be the reason why most of the scammed projects were using ERC20 token from Ethereum blockchain and since it's easy to create new token using ERC20 those scammers are taking advantage on that. I hope that Mr. Buterin will take a look on that and make some revision on it. It's difficult to combat scammers in cryptocurrency without regulations in creating ICO while many people will just invest without diligent research on the project.

Well i am thinking about this too. After the founder created this platform anyone can easily make there ico and because of this the number of ICO is increasing crazily to the point that the scammers are also growing and investors now are really in big challenge to find the real one. So i think the platform of ethereum need changes to minimize the scam otherwise this gonna be the source of scammers and should be replace by the better platform.

Not only Ethereum but also NEO, WAVES etc can easily create Token on their network, SCAM project will also increase as well.

For me,Ethereum is a good coin and has a reputation but some people used this in their fake ICO program that's why we should be very vigilant to ICO's that we are joining to prevent scam projects.

it could happen because at this time we see for ourselves that only one project is a scam and this is all possible because of the ease in making tokens on ethereum contracts.
