A group of researchers claims to have hacked the Bitfi wallet to get the $100,000 that John McAfee promised to pay in the event of a hack.
Bitfi's Executive Chairman, cybersecurity pioneer John McAfee, called it"the world's first non-tamper-resistant device." To prove his claim, on July 24, McAfee challenged security professionals, and set a $100,000 hacking premium.
Bitfi is a physical device or hardware wallet that supports "unlimited cryptocurrencies" and revolves around a secret phrase created by the user, instead of the usual 24-word passphrase that needs to be written. In addition, Bitfi is considered a "fully open source" wallet, which means that the user has control over their funds "even if the wallet manufacturer no longer exists".
Although several attempts have since been made to hack into the wallet, to date, attempts have not met the criteria set by John McAfee. However, a new attempt by researchers, according to their statements, meets the conditions, as experts were able to successfully send signed transactions from the wallet by connecting to the wallet server and transferring confidential data to it.
The security researcher Andrew Tierney said:
We sent the passphrase from the device to another server using netcat, nothing unusual. We believe that all conditions have been met.
The researchers reportedly got full access to the device two weeks ago, after which they closely monitored it, including data sent from the wallet. They claim that the device is still connected to the Bitfi server. Tierney explained:
We intercepted messages between the wallet and [Bitfi]. This allowed us to display silly messages on the screen. Interception really isn't the goal itself, it's just a measure to demonstrate that it's connected to the dashboard and still works despite significant changes.

Mcafee is a paid shill and his bullish claims are all nonsense. It keeps him in the media though but nowadays it is all for the wrong reasons. 500k for a bitcoin and now a hacked unhackable wallet!
