Chinese police arrested three people who allegedly stole the cryptocurrency for a total of about 87 million dollars.
Chinese news Agency Xinhua reported that three hackers were arrested on August 15 in Hunan, Changchun and Beijing provinces, after a month of investigation.
According to the data, the victim of the crime, indicating the name of Zhang, first filed a complaint with the police in the northwestern city of XI'an in March, saying that the computer was hacked, resulting in the stolen cryptocurrency worth about 14.5 million dollars.
The police investigation, with the assistance of several well-known, but unnamed Internet company, and later found the suspect with the surname Zhou, who allegedly hacked in to the personal computer victims to transfer funds. As the investigation continued, police also identified two other Zhou accomplices, who are said to be highly skilled hackers.
The police also accused the group that it has undertaken a series of illegal break-ins of corporate and personal networks to obtain cryptocurrency, which is estimated at 600 million yuan or about $ 87 million.
Although the investigation is still ongoing, this is an unusual case given the significant amount of cryptocurrency that has been reported stolen. The arrests also happened at a time when Chinese police made efforts to uncover cyber-crimes related to cryptocurrency.
Earlier, police in the city of Dalian in China also arrested 20 suspects who allegedly used malware to mine cryptocurrency and infected more than a million computers, resulting in more than $2 million for 2 years.
