A new malicious operation by the infamous Lazarus group has been discovered by Kaspersky Lab’s Global Research Analysis Team. In which Lazarus is tricking unsuspecting users into downloading cryptocurrency-related software laced with malware.
According to Russian antivirus vendor Kaspersky Lab, North Korean hacking outfit “Lazarus” is now targeting cryptocurrency exchanges. They have deployed their first Mac malware ever.
Kaspersky claims the malware dubbed “AppleJeus” is aimed to steal cryptocurrency funds. it marks the latest, successful and failed attempts by North Korea in the crypto hacking space.
Kaspersky discovered it is exploring new attack vectors and cryptocurrency software. Kaspersky researchers reveal that Lazarus Group penetrated the IT systems of an Asia-based cryptocurrency exchange platform.
According to Kaspersky’s report, in order to “ensure that the OS platform was not an obstacle to infecting targets, it seems the attackers went the extra mile and developed malware for other platforms, including for macOS,” noting:

They will probably target the lower end exchanges that are less protected, this makes it easier to hack some coins. Not a lot but they will get something
