Is crypto currencies only valuable to the extent that others are coordinated on valuing them?
For a new currency to get traction, it would somehow have to have some kind of unusual advantage over bitcoin.
Maybe a government would outlaw bitcoin or maybe a flaw discovered in the bitcoin protocol.
It would make it easy to switch to another tested currency.

You look at who is financing 'Ripple' one of there biggest investors is Google. Google is therefore going to push them. I would guess when you have Google pusshing you you should do quite well.

Other currencies definitely have a chance. Bitcoin's only advantages are being the first one, the most known & the most expensive.
Plenty of factors need to be considered - transaction fees, transfer times, privacy, overall use of coin, etc. - but there is still plenty of room on the playing field.

Who knows what would really happen in the coming years, it may or may not happen. I think altcoin founders should just develop their own platforms that it will become independent from bitcoin, that is the only way I see an altcoin overtaking bitcoin.

I believe that there are other cryptocurrencies that maybe successful in the market when many people are supporting and making an investment. On the contrary, btc has been far from the other cryptocurrencies since this is the first and original cryptocurrency that has been introduced to the market. Btc is the most valuable coin among the other cryptocurrencies in the market.

-
I don't think other currency will really going to surpass bitcoin because it's the mother of all crypto currencies. Even in terms of developments even we all know that there's no one really handling properly the bitcoin now but it still doing fine.

Yes, everyone is more interested and believes in bitcoin. but what I see as technology still has many coins that are better than bitcoin. Everyone must learn how to use technology in crypto.

it's a very small chance for other crypto to beat bitcoin because in terms of popularity, market capitalization and market value bitcoin is the supreme due to it's expensive price by more than 20 times of the expensive altcoins available in the market today.

Any coins have the chance to be like bitcoin or even out do bitcoin, as long as they are able to create a demand for their coins like what bitcoin can do through their marketing. Over-taking crypto is just a matter of time.
