Title: Apple Orders Coinbase To Remove Crypto Collectibles From Coinbase Wallet
Post by: fitload on September 03, 2018, 06:06:50 PM
Apple has ordered Coinbase to remove its crypto game War Riders from the Coinbase Wallet app for iOS. The game was removed for violating the terms of Apple’s in-app purchases, there is no trading, buying, or selling of cryptocurrencies allowed in Apple apps.

War Riders is a post-apocalyptic game which allows users to collect vehicles, which are represented as crypto-collectibles (non-fungible tokens) on the blockchain. The vehicles can either be driven around or stored in a garage, where they can be converted to the app’s native token BNZ.

A message claimed to be from Coinbase said it will remove the iOS version of War Riders because it’s, “Not able to highlight Dapps that facilitate the purchase of digital goods.” The app is still available, and War Riders were the only app listed inside the wallet with this kind of functionality.

Apple has historically taken a cautious approach when dealing with crypto. While Apple allows wallet applications, it does not allow wallet apps which allow users to buy, sell, or trade crypto within the app.

To sum it up, Apple has long had a complicated relationship with crypto in its app store. After it removed Coinbase for a time early on – Apple also removed a game that allowed users to earn Bitcoin for playing.
