Software Turbo Geth, created with the purpose to solve the issue of scalability of Ethereum has passed the stage of beta testing.

The redesigned Turbo Geth architecture has been completed and is now available to a closed circle of early adopters who will be testing the solution. Alexey Akhunov, the independent software developer who created this solution, said:

Unlike many other scaling solutions, Turbo Geth looks at the solution of the so-called "state" of Ethereum, instead of transaction congestion and costs.

The term "state" in this context describes the increasing history of all network computations. "Geth, rewriting the Ethereum Foundation's internal software to interact with the blockchain, will reduce the amount of stored data to one — fifth of its current size," Akhunov explained.

This solution will allow Ethereum nodes to run on cheaper hardware. Moreover, this is something that many in the community Ethereum passionately waiting — less expensive equipment helps to support the decentralization of the network.

A combination of code improvements that could optimize Ethereum prior to the update, including the introduction of scaling Sharding technology, the statement was received with a lot of applause.

This is consistent with the expectation of many industry participants, Akhunov's work is announced as one of the most promising Ethereum scaling solutions (although it is not tied to a formal scaling solution).

And while testing is yet to be done, Turbo get's solution has flaws in many of the features that users expect from a full-featured client at this time. Akhunov believes that the software will inspire others to take similar experimental approaches to network design.

Akhunov concluded:

One of the contributions I made was I expanded the design space... My main hope is that this will encourage other users and other customer developers to look at the wider Ethereum solution space.
