i know it's probably a waste of time but i do some of the btc faucet while listening to youtube in the background.

Today BTC breaks 7k $. Right now 7040$ for 1 BTC on bittrex  :-X

If you meant earning from sites like freebitco.in which pays per hour, then it isn't true as the rate is adjusted as the price of btc rises and fall. Meaning you claim the same amount in usd at any point in time.
But you are right though, it won't be easy doing that.

the faucet pay outs are a joke.  wasted so much time clicking away for a few satoshis.

Yep, with this price and maybe 10k $ at the end of 2017. We have to forget about earning free BTC  ;D

The higher the price of bitcoin, the harder it can be. People understand that this is a very promising coin, so the demand is very high.

It's not just hard, it's almost impossible. Crypto currency has become very expensive and no one wants to give it to us for free

Not only harder earning free BTC, but also the BTC transaction fee is so high these days. BTC is on the high class and luxury now.  :(
