Title: What is the difference between a "coin" and "token"?

I've heard of some companies offering tokens instead of coins, is this the same thing?

No, that isn't same, they are different, and now I will explain what I know about the both.
Token : this is using a coin platform, they don't have own platform that like some token used Ethereum as their platform and another platform like Waves Platform.
Coin : They stand alone by using their own platform, they have own protocol code or independent blockchain.

No, that isn't same, they are different, and now I will explain what I know about the both.
