An Initial Coin Offering, also commonly referred to as an ICO, is a fundraising mechanism in which new projects sell their underlying crypto tokens in exchange for bitcoin and ether. It’s somewhat similar to an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in which investors purchase shares of a company.

Indeed there are some projects that do not conduct public ICO, because the project already has its own funds or there is special funding support from their partners. but they do private sales with specific investor specifications. I think that such a project must be sought, because their coins are quickly listed on the exchange and very promising.

Good question!

ICO or Initial Coin Offering is similar to Initial Public Offering or IPO for short.

The same thing happens - There is a company or group of people who have a solution for a problem, service or a product. They are looking for a way to raise funds.

And ICO project is something like a Kickstarter. It actually is a Crowdfunding project. During the ICO, the company creates their own, unique tokens that might be used for their service/product. People then pay in Ethereum or Bitcoin (Usually using those two cryptocurrencies) and get Tokens of that company in return. After the Token sale or ICO is finished, the tokens become tradeable after some time, meaning you can trade them on a cryptocurrency exchange for Ethereum, Bitcoin or any other Alternative Cryptocurrency coin. The team will use part of the funds raised from the ICO to develop or upgrade their product/service.

And there are many projects which need money but can't do ICO. Doing ICO many factors are to consider like, regulations etc.
SO from this you can imagine doing ICO is not straightforward.

I'd say ICO (Initial Coin Offering) is not only a fundraising event, it is a promotion of a product by itself. When a company starts ICO, it starts a strong marketing campaign. It's a good tool to promote your product, however, an expensive one. This may be one of the reasons why some projects do not do ICO.

As we know that the ICO (Initial Coin Offering) is a way to raise funds to develop their projects. So it should be related to marketing strategies to achieve success.
