Post by: Doovla on October 15, 2018, 07:18:20 PM
For all new newcomers i would suggest to make your life easier and simple. Just go to coinmarketcap site there and if get all your knowledge of many types of coins/altcoins that you are interested.
Really useful site and charts are placed excaclty with current situation of market - there are also link to find easier to trade faster in finding.
Happy hunting!

Coinmarketcap.com is excellent, but I wish they would include an option for us to view a graph of a token's market cap over time.  That doesn't always mirror the token's price over time because of the inflationary/deflationary tokenomics/supply.  I have suggested it to them before, but they don't seem very interested in publishing the graphs.

I have different opinion about this matters. I would recommend CoinGecko instead, especially for newcomers. It has more clean and less confusing UI with better coin/token categorization. CMC doing that badly, especially when categorizing privacy coins[1].

Honestly, I tried to use Coingecko more for some other reasons, but CMC is still more user-friendly, or at least it is much more convenient for me to use.
Although lately, CMC has become quite slow, too much data is loaded, often completely unnecessary, plus various advertisements and javascript, and it has a lot of impact on the usefulness of the site itself.

I would like to see a better alternative that will be devoted exclusively to the needs of the user.

In that case, have you tried using adblock add-ons or software (such as uBlock Origin) to block those ads?

There are so many desktop or mobile application which shows cryptocurrency data, where it's data taken from either CMC or CoinGecko API. One of those probably could be more user friendly for you.

Ads are not the main problem, but too much information that CMC wants to offer on the same page. Various meme token trends, airdrops, feeds from social networks...

I saw some WordPress plugins that offer something similar, coin markets using CMC or CoinGecko API, so I'm thinking of creating a page for my needs, where only what interests me will be filtered.

Coinmarketcap used to be very popular and active for everyone back then, Coingecko was around but hasn't captured the heart of many because of the user based but Coinmarketcap fell off the moment they sold the platform to Binance for 200m, I remember they tried to bring in new people using aidrop to then but the part where they put comments for users turnout to a place for spam and scam.

The UI on the web is also slow, not very responsive, I don't know probably they didn't increase the bandwidth or server but coingecko is given and better in performance than Coinmarketcap by far.

I think coinmarketcap lost some credibility when binance bought it. They were bought years after the OP started this topic.

However,  I personally prefer cmc compared to coingecko.
