I didn't really get much into airdrops until after I got 250 POLY tokens. When those showed up (currently at $1.05 each) I got serious about finding more.

It's a good question. IMO, you never really earn much from the airdrop itself - or at least not anymore. It used to be values of around $10-50 but now it's more like $1-$5, especially for the pre-ICO drops. Some can still be worth a decent amount but these are more difficult to find or are more exlusive airdrops. This sucks, our social maedia marketing is being sold for very cheap now! There's been such a "boom" with airdrops that's reflected the general crypto market boom that there are now thousands of airdrop participants waiting for the next sign up, willing to spam numerous social media channels to earn the next dollar. Not to mention that near every new ICO reserves airdrop/bounty campaigns. I still remember when an email & ETH address would be all you need to get in!
The profit however should be made when tokens/coins go up 10x, 100x or 1000x. For example I recently sold EXRN for $1.5k (https://steemit.com/aridrop/@dragononcrypto/expnchain-that-moment-you-realise-your-airdropped-coins-are-worth-usd1-5k-after-15-000-rise) that was initially worth $40 at airdrop last October. Funny thing is it went to $80 then crashed down to a range of $5-$10 for about a month before going 150x. Those who sold for make a quick $50+ must of been disappointed! Fools I say! So sometimes you get your shitcoins that will 10x which you can take a fair labour payslip from, otherwise those per-ICO drops can reliably jump 100x but that's just your $1 becoming worth something. Ideally you get exclusive projects giving decent airdrops that have steady climbs.
Since January I have now 20 ERC20 tokens, none of them are worth more than a few dollars. I won't be selling any portions until summer now, or least and til the market is back to a ATH. But also with over 100 signups, there are many airdrops that aren't until late March, so the strategic delay can be useful so the value doesn't nosedive when trading starts because the overall market is undergoing a heavy correction. Basically what's been happening for the past month. But I also got 506 UCASH on the IBO, didn't sell it either when it was worth $100+. So in that sense, you HODL and if you sell at a good time you make $$$$.
Just like investing in crypto - HODL and you'll make worthwhile profits. Hope that gives you some insight! I really shouldn't be selling it though :P
Have noticed I'm not a Full Member of this forum too, guess I'm liking the discussions here ;D

Just like Dragoncrypto said, I only have a few hundred $ in airdrops now - the money doesn't roll in until 3, 6, or 12 months down the line when about 10-30% of these coins are 10x ICO price. Sure 50% of these will tank, but a single coin that you may get 1000 of free at a $0.01 ICO price... when that price reaches $1 each (100x increase, totally doable in the crypto market in a year)... that's $1000 for that single airdrop.
