In short: Lending your computational power to keep the blockchain of a certain cryptocurency working, usually getting a reward in said coin. If you need a more detailed description I am sure you will find something on public sources like Wiki, bitcointalk, this forum, but usually you do not need to get to deep into the technical details to get started.
