Being the fork of Bytecoin, Monero (XMR) is an anonymous and decentralized cryptocurrency with CryptoNight (64-bit CPU-only) PoW hash algorithm and based on CryptoNote protocol. It also has the fastest (1 minute) block generation speed among all CryptoNotes. Monero was known as BitMonero for the first 5 days of its release. Nowadays it is the second most successful CryptoNote currency in terms of market cap, with very active community around the coin.
