Title: Bitcoin uses too much energy?
Post by: emma.lee1890 on November 10, 2018, 07:53:24 PM
Now Motherboard is not the best source for news, but let's consider the implications of this...

Consuming immense amounts of energy is actually somewhat counterproductive if we consider the vision of Bitcoin giving us tools for independence. And it's somewhat unethical because we should not be using more than we need on this earth.

However, we don't really know how much energy it is consuming at this stage, so this could just be another reporter trying to find a story.

Obviously, the extraction of bitcoins requires a large amounts of electricity, which costs a lot of money. There are countries in which electricity is produced by burning cheap coal (such as China), so they concentrate the main mining capacity. Obtaining cheap electricity that miners use, such countries however cause great harm to the ecology of the Earth!

I have never done cryptocurrency mining, and I thought it was no longer profitable today, but I see that many people earn and earn money on it, I need to start learning)

Bitcoin uses too much energy as the main source to do mining. Without electricity no bitcoin through internet connection. And most probably no creation of digital currency. Energy is the source to do more mining and new launching of altcoins.

Quite right, now everyone who is engaged in mining on bitcoin speaks about this, because the demand for mining is constantly growing and the price of energy is growing, also same is with the consumption of energy.

This is really a problem if we don't care it will definitely damage our earth, I don't know the details about mining, how much it costs, it's just that from the many news that I read, it has a negative impact on the environment.

In fact, now there are many other projects that implement minimal energy consumption during the mining of their coins.

No matter how much energy is used for Bitcoin miners, the electricity bill will still be paid by the miners to the state, and there is nothing wrong with this. this news is really exaggerated by some people, because if compared to factories, Bitcoin mining is not comparable, factories use more energy but people never realize that, I think some people want to make Bitcoin look bad.

Yes of course for mining Bitcoin uses a lot of energy but not for transactions. For transactions Bitcoin uses a little amount of energy. and mine Bitcoins in such a area where the cost of electricity is lower than others so that you can make some profit otherwise the electricity bill will be more than your profit.

Yes, but you can use unlimited energy to do mining, when using a POW and switching to POS I think it will save more energy.

From your topic, in mining, Bitcoin consume too much energy, I wonder if mining bitcoin is still profitable.

Considering this following article, Bitcoin is cheaper than Visa payment systems, so I think that Bitcoin adoption barrier doesn't pass from energy consumption issues.
