Coinbase launches a dedicated over-the-counter trading Desk
Coinbase launched an over-the-counter (OTC) trading platform, which was available earlier this month exclusively to institutional investors, including hedge funds and other Agency-level companies. Now these customers of the popular crypto-company in the USA will be able to exchange and buy cryptocurrencies with high speed using direct communication methods such as Skype, e-mail or telephone communication, which is typical for OTC-drives in other markets.
Christine Sandler, head of sales at Coinbase, said in an interview with Cheddar:
We launched our OTC business as a complement to our exchange business because we found that many institutions use OTC as a ramp to enter the cryptocurrency market.
Unlike other OTC-drives, Coinbase claims that Their platform is not a counterparty in transactions. The company plans to eventually offer a deferred settlement and possibly integrate the new service with its asset storage service.
Huobi opens derivatives market
Huobi announced on Wednesday, November 28th that it has launched the crypto-derivatives market in beta, which is now available in selected countries.
Contracts available on the new platform allow traders to buy or sell cryptocurrency derivatives at pre-determined prices on a weekly and quarterly basis. The exchange Huobi DM offers up to 20x leverage, and includes the protection of investors, such as insurance for 20'000 BTC from catastrophic failures of security.
Joshua Goodho, General counsel for Huobi's global institutional team, said:
Cryptocurrency is a rapidly expanding and maturing market. As part of this maturation, we see more and more experienced investors and traders coming from more advanced financial markets and seeking opportunities, including tools for institutional players. At the same time, we believe that many experienced, cryptocurrency traders are looking for a wider range of investment instruments. Huobi DM is specially designed to meet these needs.
Currently, the platform is not available to users from the USA, Singapore, Israel, Iraq, Hong Kong, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Malaysia, Syria, Eastern Samoa, Puerto Rico, GUAM, Bangladesh, Ecuador and Kyrgyzstan.
