Title: Is crypto still often using by crime organizations?
Post by: RapidRabbit on December 03, 2018, 02:40:56 PM
I've read last weekend an article (https://www.spam blocked b/an-attempt-to-fund-isis-with-bitcoin-ends-with-jail-time/) on spam blocked b about woman from U.S. who was caught attempting to fund ISIS with bitcoin. Cryptocurrencies have a bad image thanks to be unofficial currency of darknet, but I thought the situation is more balanced right now and cases like this are happening really seldom. Do you know more about using crypto for stuff like this?

Yes, this often happen, because of this some country still not legalize Bitcoin at their countries, and if you know about darkweb, there is many transactions using Bitcoin as the payment method, because this is really safe and can't tracked by anyone, some naughty users make this become useful to run their crime activity that like you said, and the governments always thinking to find best way to fix this problem.
Everything there is a advantages and the weakness for our life, that based on how we use it and what the impact for our life or our government, if we can use Bitcoin with good, I'm sure we can get the best impact.

I believe the reason why people now prefer carrying out criminal activities with cryptocurrency can be attributed to the fact that , you can carry out money laundering and the rest untraced to you.
So to them, it proves to be safer.

I don't think that crypto is the only one funding that is used for crime. You know, money is also used for the same. It means that the fault is not on the crypto, but on the personal itself. I think that it is one of the negative issues and we can only let it flow because I myself think that crypto is very worthy and beneficial for us.

I rarely read the news about the misused of bitcoin or other crypto coins currently. I think it is only a little side of cryptocurrency world. The most news in crypto are about bear market, scam projects, failed ICOs, and hackers attacks.

Of course it is, because cryptocurrency is still in many ways an anonymous means of payment and no documents are required to make any payment or transfer anywhere!

I don't think crypto is just funding terrorists and other crimes but fiat is like that and it happened a lot before crypto appeared. the user is everything and asking the user to spend something according to what we all want is impossible. behind every new thing will have a negative impact even though it is small and that should not be made bigger than the benefits that crypto gives to everyone

I don't think crime organizations are using crypto right now.

It is not like back then. It can be traced easily even privacy coins like monero.

Of course, cryptocurrency is the best way to transfer dirty money from any country to other country and the most important thing is that you can transfer any amount.

Illegal activities can happen every where and every time. So, I think Crypto is still often using by crime organizations. Because It is secure.

I think, that few years ago, when global knowledge about crypto was still low, crime organizations could easly use them for their couse. But know, when awareness of cryptocurrencies has risen and even governments considering this subject (like, for examble, on G20 which is happening right now (https://www.spam blocked b/the-taxation-of-cryptocurrency-across-the-world/)), the control over it is getting bigger.

I don't think in have read in the news where cryptocurrency is used for crime..until recently. So it is not rampart which I believe is why the SEC is trying its best to see that at least some transactions will not go untraced.

Yes.  People still use cryptocurrency to carry out criminal activities .
I think it's because you can actually carry out these criminal activities without being caught or the funds traced back to you.
So they find using cryptocurrency very convenient.

Crypto is decentralize and this make it easy for foul play to happen but in this era when you have the will somehow you will have a way to do it.

When Bitcoin reached parity with the dollar in 2011, buying and selling on The Silk Road was easy. It was also relatively anonymous–until the Feds began to investigate, find, and prosecute criminals and the website was shut down. But the stain on Bitcoin’s reputation lived on.

There is no doubt that anonymous crypto like Monero are used by criminal organizations and for black market but this does not mean that everyone that uses Monero is a criminal...

I think Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are still used for black business. But now most likely already developed ways to track such transactions. And it's much harder to be anonymous.

Bitcoin was not anonymous...most transactions are paid in dollars .It can also be outlawed.Just unlike the dollar, the state has not yet learned to control the cryptocurrency.

I think it's still used for the benefit of criminal organizations. And this is what happened in my country and until now the government has not given permission to use crypto coins as a medium of payment. This will certainly have a negative impact on everyone who wants to invest.

I will say yes to this question because many people still use crypto for crime, and even go freely without been persecuted.

this is excessive exposure to crypto, crypto provides greater benefits than this negative, we have to weigh the increase in benefits rather than the disadvantages caused
