The US-based mobile crypto wallet provider Trust Wallet, previously focused on Ethereum-based coins and tokens, has expanded its functionality beyond ERC compliant digital assets.
Along with the primary coins within the Ethereum ecosystem and about 20,000 ERC tokens, cryptocurrency holders can now use the service to store their Bitcoins, according to the press release, published by the company.
"Your Wallet is now SegWit compatible and enables you to send and receive Bitcoin through Bech32 (bc1) addresses," the statement says.
Users will have to activate Bitcoin support manually from their app. Though the process is intuitive and shouldn't cause troubles even for inexperienced users:
"To activate just tab on the plus sign in the upper right corner, then tab on the slide bar next to Bitcoin (BTC)."
Currently, the functionality is available only for iOS users. However, the company plans to add Bitcoin support for an Android version of the wallet within 2-3 weeks.
A few weeks ago, Trust Wallet expanded the list of supported assets with TRON (TRX), GoChain (GO), POA Network (POA), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Wanchain (WAN), ICON (ICON), and VeChain (VET). Support for Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) will be added by the end of the year.
Cryptocurrency exchange Binance acquired Trust Wallet in July 2018. It is supposed to become a part of Binance Decentralized Exchange (DEX) infrastructure, which will be launched in the first quarter of 2019.
The service was established in November 2017 with the aim to provide a secure decentralized mobile wallet solution with anonymous features. Wallet users can manage the multiple coins and tokens supported by the service and even participate in ICOs and airdrops via unified wallet address.
This multi-asset feature and reach functionality, which is highly rated by App Store and Google Play users, may attract Bitcoin holders and encourage Trust Wallet customers to use the service more actively.
