Founded in 1997, HTC is a Taiwanese consumer electronics manufacturer that was a leading smartphone supplier in the US in late 2010, TechCrunch reports. The company's market share began to decline when in 2014 it was replaced by Apple, Samsung and LG. In 2017, HTC owned 2.3% of the smartphone market, and in 2018, the company controls less than one and a half percent.

Brave, an open-source browser running on a blockchain that blocks ads and website trackers, will reportedly be pre-installed on HTC Exodus 1 - the "first blockchain smartphone" working with support for multiple blockchains, including bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH). The upcoming HTC Exodus 1 project was originally announced in may 2018.

Brendan Ikes, co-founder of Brave and previously Mozilla, announced a partnership with HTC on Twitter: "we're thrilled that @Brave is the default browser and works with HTC on their Exodus phone."

The Brave browser uses the Basic Attention Token (BAT), which sends payments to Brave advertisers and their users and can then be used to pay for premium content. In June 2017, IKS raised $ 35 million in 30 seconds during an ICO held for BAT tokens.

Last month, SIRIN Labs, a blockchain-focused electronics provider, released its first blockchain-based smartphone called FINNEY. Based on both the Android and SIRIN open source operating system SIRIN OS, the FINNEY phone offers a cryptographic wallet with cold storage and provides encrypted communication.

Also this summer, Opera for Android announced the release of a private beta version, which will include a built-in crypto-wallet that supports the Ethereum Web3 API with integrated WebView by default.
