Coinbase, one of the world’s biggest crypto exchanges, has come up with a new initiative aimed at promoting public knowledge and mass adoption of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Called Coinbase Earn, the new product is designed to incentivize customers and reward them with 0x tokens for learning more about digital assets.

“Coinbase Earn allows users to earn cryptocurrencies, while learning about them in a simple and engaging way. The idea is for users to understand more about an asset’s utility and its underlying technology, while getting a bit of the asset to try out,” the exchange explained on its official blog.

The system will offer free short video lessons and various educational tasks and quizzes that could be done in a few minutes. Completing them will earn users small amounts of 0x tokens.

As the Coinbase team noted, the results of its survey among community members revealed a great number of people highly interested in embracing new digital currencies but hesitant because of their lack of knowledge. Coinbase Earn is an attempt to clear this hurdle.

The exchange also claims it offers customers a new, alternative way to acquire tokens. Apart from traditional mining or buying cryptocurrency, it is now possible to earn it in the process of education and task completion. This access to tokens should help people turn theory into practice, according to Coinbase.

Currently, the program is available in ‘invite-only’ mode, and there are just a few introductory lessons placed on the web page. However, the developers say everyone can sign up on the waitlist, and more new lessons and educational content will be coming.

At the moment, the reward can be paid out only in ZRX, an asset coming from the Ox external development pool, but Coinbase Earn plans to support other cryptocurrencies later on.

“We think Coinbase Earn could help open up blockchain access to a new group of users: people who are curious about digital assets, but who’d like to try them out for free just like a normal web or mobile app,” the release concludes.

Earlier, Coinbase expanded its list of tradable instruments with several ERC-20 based coins.
