Sad news, but I guess it's a pretty good proof of concept for XMR's built-in security and privacy features.

Sad news, of course, but this is a problem we cannot solve for ages. When someone is killed with a knife, shall be blame the tool (the knife), or the bad use of it? Many people think this way, and I think that they should reconsider. We use a knife for many good reasons like cutting of bread. If a knife is used in a bad way, I don't think that we should stop making knives, or prohibit their use. We have to find the person who used it in a bad way, and punish him. The same with Monero. It's just a tool. Kidnappers, should be found and get punished. Ok, Monero makes the effort more difficult, but the authorities have many was to surpass this problem.

The sad news, but there will be many more such cases. With the use of US dollars a lot more crimes are committed, so there is nothing to worry about the fact that criminals more often began to use anonymous cryptocurrency. Perhaps governments will reconsider their attitude to cryptocurrencies due to their anonymity, but they will not be able to abandon their use.

Ooohhh Man!
Bad news for Monero!

I think this is a very well-planned crime and the kidnapper really understands how MONERO works.
I was determined and I prayed for the kidnapper to repent immediately and that was definitely the worst crime I have ever used with Monero.

Yes, apparently, the kidnappers understand cryptocurrency. Monero is one of the most anonymous cryptocurrencies and therefore it is forbidden to circulate even in a country that is cryptocurrency-friendly like Japan.
Well, well, this once again proves the best side of this coin. I think that among the cryptocurrency, we also need completely anonymous and confidential coins.
