Title: how long is it normal to be a holder?
Post by: ayatoslaw on January 12, 2019, 04:04:17 AM
I am one of the holders, especially when the market is down,
I prefer to be a holder,
It's just that, I don't know how long it takes to normally hold a coin ,?
I'm sure we might not want to hold a coin for long,
if I assume, maybe at least 3-4 years for new coins, and under 2 years for old coins.
I'm sure it doesn't take more than 5 years for this, because now the development of coins is very fast, different when BTC first appeared.

I thought I didn't hold the altcoin for too long, once I made a profit, I would immediately sell it, so I would also wait for a lower purchase price. so I will also get easier profits.

some experienced investors can hold their assets for more than 10 years. I know such examples, so I advise you to keep the cryptocurrency for at least 2 years.

I see it takes normally 2-3 years time to finish the roadmap of a project. Now I also keep this in mind while selling bounty coins because after finishing the roadmap we can see a good growth in a coin but I feel if I am getting a good profit at any point I sell straight away.

I never heard of any "normal period" to hold a certain coin. The market have changed and will continue to change. We will probably never see projects to grow like bitcoin and other top altcoins did. My suggestion is to always keep an eye for updates (and not the buy-hold-get rich) on the projects you invested. Things can turn ugly anytime.

Yea holding has no particular timing line whether long-term investors or short term. The bottom line as far as holding is concerned is basically individuals choices; there are many that hold coin/ token up to 10years while many will preferred to hold 2 to 3 years. I like to hold new coins for, at least 4 years but i may sell some coins along the the period if prices are profitable

New coins have many advantages, I see new coins using blockchain technology and they have a good system and a wallet that can store coins easily, there is always competition and now I also have lots of coins that I can hold to sell in the future

~snip~ now the development of coins is very fast, different when BTC first appeared.

What development you mean bro? I think there are more coins that have problems in improving their values. Moreover, the market never stops to decline, many coins are struggling only to survive. I am sorry if I don't agree with you about this.

Yes, there is no normal period. If you hold a coin of a good project that goes on, you should keep it as long as the project is performing well. If you are satisfied with the profit, it's time to leave. If the project has a bad performance, you sell to avoid more losses.

It is a good choice, I also hold my coins when market is getting down. But I don't think to keep a coin till 3-4 years, it is too long for me. I just plan to keep a coin less than 2 years. After 2 years, I will evaluate my holding coins and sell the coins that have no good future.

Every crypto holder will tend to hold their assets during the decline cycle in market. It is the way to keep the coin's values and to avoid suffer losses due to panic selling. Regarding the time for holding, every coin has a different time length and we cannot determine when the best time to sell it. Some coins may need for two years or more to reach the best rates.

Short term is just a day trading process at all time because the small profit matters than huge earning.
Long term holding is a journey to experience such massive hike that hit the moon or in other hand is expecting to increase the profit just a day from long days of waiting.  It could range 4years above?

It is not how long now but it is how much profit are you aiming before selling the coin or the token you invested into.

I consider a resonable amount of time for holding 4 years, especially for new coins. During that long period many things may happen but I think that if project is good and blockchain will be really adopted by people the coin will rise in that period.

For profits that are better held in the long run, and at a time of high increase, you can sell to get a large profit. Kripto is unstable, so you have to make a decision to sell when market conditions benefit you.

normally to hold coins or invest in coins is around 2 to 3 years. depending on the coin you use. if dev is serious about developing the technology on the coin, I'm sure it only takes a quick time to get interested.

If the market situation is in a normal state it does not take a long time to hold the assets we have. I need one month at the most to hold a position to get a profit. But now everything has been different and requires a long time to recover prices on the market. So be patient to wait for prices to return to normal.

The basic is not how long but how much you earn profit. I think you hold till then your expected profit to be earned. So wait and watch. Hope for the market recovery, soon.

you can hold as long as when its going to give you the profit you are aiming at. It might not be up to a year and it might be up to 3,4,5 years or more depending on the coin. However, i can't hold for too long unless I know its a long term project because right now coins develop very fast and more coins are coming up unlike when it was only bitcoin.

For me, 5 years look like rather long time for holding. I don't know if I still survive in crypto space till the next 5 years. I prefer to set the target around 2-3 years. It makes sense for me, because I avoid to speculate so much on investment. Holding for 5 years or more is very risky to lose assets, or gaining profits very high. Personally, I am afraid to lose assets at all.

A holder of the coins will be more patient in order to HODL them until the market is reaching at least on the expected price. I cannot say how long because it will vary for each coin. However, it should be more months or years probably.
Title: Re: how long is it normal to be a holder?

How long you hold a coin depends on your discretion and how solid the foundation and the team/project is. Most coins survive with a long term holding giving good profit at the end of the day, but most needs immediate sell to cash out or face losses. I will say, get your capital out and wait tlfpr the profit to come forth.

You are in more better position to know when you want  to let go off your assets.  You can decide to hold it for 5years or less, it's your money and your choice on what to do with it. When you think you have enough profit, then you can sell

If your goal is to cash out to fiat, you may not want to hold coins for long. If you believe in the long term growth and value of the ecosystem... you hold indefinitely until there is mass adoption and then you can spend.

Basically it is difficult to know how long holding a coin to gain maximum profits. I cannot imagine if I must hold certain coins till 5 years or even more. I am afraid the coins become dead or have no values at all. Whereas it is also possible to gain optimum profits. Rationally, I hold for 1 - 3 years only, it is enough time already for me.

Title: Re: how long is it normal to be a holder?

It depends on the coins being held. Some coins are to be held for a long period while some should be held for a short period. Like all this pump and dump coins, should be held for a short time... Hodling these coins or tokens for a long time will make one lose and you just keep holding in vain. However, coins to HODL for long term are potential coins that you know the profits will be in the future.
Title: Re: how long is it normal to be a holder?
Post by: Xtinah on January 27, 2019, 11:01:33 AM
For as long as enough profit is made from the coin especially for short term projects. Hodling sometimes will make you lose if target is not set unless the project is a long term project and you see it has potentials to be great in the future, then you hold for a long time.

It all depends on how soon you need cash and your profit target also.
If  you need cash urgently sooner than later, then holding for short term won't be a bad idea but if you do not need cash now and your profit forcast is between 500+%, then  I would suggest you hold longer untill the target is filled .

If I think that holding a coin is a waste of time, because if we hold it for an uncertain time, we will lose a lot of time, we better sell and buy back at the lowest rate, so we can trade again, and not wait when the coins we buy back like when we buy again.

This is calculated not by days, but by percentages of profit. You want to keep the asset is not 1000 days, and earn 1000%. So you have to think in the right units.

it's too long to hold a token or coin. You only need 1 year to hold it. and you also have to always see the price of the coins you hold. because the price might rise dramatically in 6 months, even 3 months. so don't hold it too long.

Market price determines how long we can hold coins. If there is a sudden market sentiment that pushes the price to the rooftop and you find yourself in profit after holding for a few months then what do you do? sell off course.

People know very well to gain profits in crypto, it requires to hold coins for months even for years. But the market decline so badly, the prices quite stagnant. When it moves, it tend to decline more.

If we are talking about the token or coin older, it will depend on which coins that you mean. Commonly every coin will show the different time whether it is valuable to sell again or not. But so far, I have the coins from 2017 and now the market shows -70%. I think I need at least about 2 years for holding the coins. It's normal.

ICO project developers are indeed very clever, but if a good project doesn't have good developers and a large number of communities, I think the coins that I get will I sell if the coins don't have a good team, we can see from the team profiles from several visits to various countries to introduce their products

So far, the longest time for holding the coins is more than a year, holding it since the end of 2017 and I still HODL it. Seeing the market value will not make me to sell the coins right now because I really lose the big volume. But well, this is crypto world. I think holding for some years are also still normal if the coins are not dead.

There is no time limit for holding a coin. You can sell when you consider it necessary, but if you just bought some coin, then you better hold for a couple months, watch the course, and then make a decision. It will give you experience for the future.

In my opinion, I don't think that we need to label what is normal or not. For me, the normalcy of being a holder depends on the holder himself. Some may depend on how the market goes, if they think it is already the right time, they sell and trade, if it is the other way around, then they hold.

It depends on ones target and how soon you would be needing cash.
Some investors invest for long term ranging from 5years up while some invest for 1,2,3 and 4 years .
Some investors invest and hold pending when market recovers or is  bullish before they can sell.
So it all depends.

I'm sure it doesn't take more than 5 years for this, because now the development of coins is very fast, different when BTC first appeared.
Holding of a coin depends on the level of patience and greediness of the holder and the potentials of the project. Not all holders can afford to hold a coin for a year or more. On the other hand, some holders can hold a coin for more than a year depending on the capabilities of the coin which gives them the assurance to hold.

maybe it is true that there is no definite standard for how long we have to hold the coins we have, because everyone has a different level of patience and purpose when holding the coin.
1 year for normal, 2 to 5 years for long term.

I think one years is normal to be a holder.  Many people didnt  like as a holder for along  time.  I prefer invest  in short term.

For those that did bounty always hold their token or coins depending on how long it takes the coins to be listed in exchange so is normal to hold your coins as far they are not listed, but as for those that hold by investing in different project don't hold for too long and traders also one's there's profit they sell.

The purpose of trading is profit. The most common mistake, is not setting a goal. When you set a goal, you take your profits, when the goal is met. It does not matter, if the price goes far away up, from the goal. We cannot find the best, price.

if we hold a coin that has good value, for me it's also good to take a longer hold by waiting for higher price increases in the future, so I'm sure that will also get a lot of benefits.

The amount of time to hold can vary for each asset individually, so you need to carefully monitor the development of coins and wait for the price at which you will be ready to sell them for profit.

I hold a coin can not be determined how long I will hold. Because I prefer to play safe. So the token or coin that I hold has increased and I already feel profitable, then I immediately sell it back and immediately find another coin to trade again.

to become a holder is unlimited in time depending on the development of the market or ongoing market conditions. price fluctuations also affect whether you will end your hold period or stay afloat.

It depends on the project and the coin. Some coins are not to be held for too long if not you will lose out. Once you notice its likely to be a short term project, just sell when you have made profit and forget. Long term projects can be held for 1year,some up to 3,4years which can be frustrating at times. Personally, I don't have the patience to hold for too long, once profit is made I sell

Actually, it is not unlimited, we can set the target. However, it is true that there is no certain time to trade after holding. Holders can trade their assets if they think it is the right time. Or some can do cuttloss if they think it is a must to do to avoid big losses.

How long to keep the coin -everyone decides for himself. The main mistake of many investors is to hold a losing position for a long time.Ie already need to close the loss, but we continue to believe and keep the coin.I found myself in this situation.I was lucky-this strategy, even after a year-but still brought me profit.
But is it possible to consider such a profit adequate for such a time ????

In my opinion, I think that there is no limitation on how long we hold our coins. The decision is definitely up to the holder. One can hold it for a very long time if he wants to. Others sell their coins when the market is good and profitable. The decision also depends on the market, so we holders should always be vigilant if the market movement to be able to decide when to hold or sell.

At the moment, due to high volatility, the holding is possible only for a short time.  If you hold on for a long time, then you risk losing your assets.  You can only hold stablecoins - but whether holdings of coins is a big question for now.

if you have decided to be a holder, then get patience and go this way to the end. I repeatedly made the mistake of holding the coins for several months, I did not stand and sold them minus and in a few days this coin began to grow strongly. Inevitably, after a while, the coin will renew its price

It is good to hold coins for long time if the particular coins is not listed in exchange yet or maybe is listed but the price value is very low this can also contributes to as the main reason why you are holding for long time but some people with fear and sell out their coins probably because of the last experience the encounter from other crypto project.

You should hold as long as it make sense, any coin have pumps and dumps, you would try to make profit on it, of course you can just hold for years. It's safer, but longer, also coin can never reach higher price and you only lose.

However in a bear season one should not hold cryptos and stay safe in bitcoin or usd.

Well, I wouldn't mention figures because the decision or reason to hold a coin must always be based on facts or analysis of the project of the coin and the market situation. These factors can only be ascertained through the performance of extensive study of the project of the coin in possession. After the study or research, it will be clear how long to hold each coin based on the identified potentials and capabilities of each coin in possession.

There is no such definition for a holder I believe it depends on market to market or we can say full implementation of roadmap of a coin. Obviously a holder will hold his coin until his coins moves above the buying price. Yes development is quite quick as compare to early stage of crypto market. But some long term investors invest in coins like Fixed deposits in bank they will sell when they needed and I can say holding depends on person requirements.

Once upon a time it is not necessary.  Sometimes you keep a coin for a long time, and then it generally falls in price and costs less than a cent.  And there are exceptions to the other side.  But the first option is most common, so I don’t hold coins for a long time.

Correct, hodling a coin for a long period of time is good but without a good strategy on your sell targets you'll end
up missing the opportunity to sell it for a higher price. In hodling the best thing that a person should consider is
his/her strategy and without a strategy, you won't get maximize profits.

I am of the opinion that for a good time holding a coin while waiting for the price to go to the moon is only 2 years. If in that time the price of the coin does not rise, you should just leave the coin and look for a new coin to invest and hold again.  There's no point in holding a coin for too long, it's just a waste of time.
