The announcement of the exchange appeared after a Reddit user complained of a phishing attack on the forum.

The Localbitcoins notice explains that "an unauthorized source was able to access and send transactions from multiple vulnerable accounts."

The original transactions were temporarily disabled by Localbitcoins while the team was investigating the case and they were re-enabled after a series of measures to address the issue and secure the accounts. Platform's representatives reported:

We were able to identify the problem related to the function of third-party software and stop the attack. We are currently determining the correct number of affected users - six cases have been confirmed so far. For security reasons, the forum feature was disabled until further notice.

The representatives of the largest p2p trading platform also added some security recommendations for users: "currently your Localbitcoins accounts are safe to login and use-we recommend you to enable two - factor authentication if you have not already done so."
