Altcoins are the alternative cryptocurrencies launched after the success of Bitcoin. Example : Ethereum , Ripple, NEO Gold etc.

When we say altcoins alternative to bitcoin. Any coins  that can be substitute or a replacement for bitcoin.  example is ether , ripple , zcash ,litecoin.
