My favorite movie is "WALL-E" but I don't have it... I've never had a DVD player. We live in a trailer park in the foothills of California and we don't have cable or phone. We have only had high speed Internet for the last year.
If my parents got my first and most recent DVD player, I'd be in college and college life would have been much different for me. I'd have played a lot more games than I have. I'd have probably joined a frat or a sorority (probably a sorority since I'd never seen 'Clueless'). In college I wouldn't have done such stuff as I did. I'd have been a better person for it. I'd have done less drugs. I'd have been a much better student. I'd have grown up a lot faster and more maturely.
This is why I'm glad I never had a DVD player. I've seen everything I want to watch on Netflix, my own copy of DVDs or the Internet. I've been an active participant in the video game industry. I've tried to become a good citizen in the world. I've joined the Marine Corps, got married, bought and sold my own house, bought a car, had kids, bought a dog, etc.
Now that my life is taking its natural and normal course, I don't know if I'll have a DVD player when I go to college and get my degree in about seven years. So I think I'm happy for this reason that I never had a DVD player.
