Reversal Leads to Breakout

XRP has been falling since Nov. 24, when it reached a high of $0.79. The decline continued until it reached a low of $0.437 on Dec. 16. However, a rapid upward move ensued shortly afterward that took it to a high of $0.659 the following day.

This increase caused it to break out from a descending resistance line that had been in place since the previous Nov. 24 high. Nevertheless, XRP was sharply rejected by the $0.65 resistance area, the 0.618 Fib retracement level of the most recent decline.

PayPal’s (PYPL) foray into bitcoin could become a “game changer” for both the payments company and its users, said Mizuho Securities analyst Dan Dolev in an interview with CNBC on Friday.

    During the "Fast Money" interview, the analyst said the investment bank had surveyed almost 400 PayPal users and found nearly 20% had started using PayPal's new Bitcoin (BTC, -4.03%) buying and selling service. Of those, half had indicated increased engagement with the firm's services.

It just topped $22,000, thereby setting another all-time high, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

With today's price movement, Bitcoin's market cap has also reached $403 billion, surpassing Johnson & Johnson as the 13th-biggest asset by market cap, according to AssetDash. It's nearly as valuable as Walmart, which has a market cap of $411 billion.

XRP had traded in a range of $0.49773 to $0.50988 in the previous twenty-four hours.

Over the past seven days, XRP has seen a drop in value, as it lost 12.89%. The volume of XRP traded in the twenty-four hours to time of writing was $10.41628B or 10.21% of the total volume of all cryptocurrencies. It has traded in a range of $0.4858 to $0.6232 in the past 7 days.

Venezuela's National Superintendency of Crypto Assets and Related Activities (SUNACRIP), the regulatory body for cryptocurrency, and the Ministry of the People's Power for Electric Energy, which sets public electricity policy, yesterday signed a legal agreement to promote and organize crypto mining activity in the nation.

A million ETH have found their way to the smart contracts of Ethereum 2.0, four days after the protocol successfully launched its beacon chain, as per on-chain explorer service Etherscan.
The amount is currently worth over $600 million and would reward stakers in the future when other phases are launched and the staked amounts open up for withdrawals. However, the annual yields on these staked funds remain unspecified as of today.
