Goldman is setting up a Cryptocurrency Trading Desk. Ok it's old but... What will the prospects of this choice be?
Why did a group like Goldman make this choice? Will there be more attempts by banks and financial institutions to make bitcoin more institutionalized? What should we expect from all this? can the blockchain world continue to ignore the "real" global economic market and vice versa?
When the old economy approaches these issues it seems that the strategies they set up are always very cautious and vague. Do not they believe it enough or do they have any plans to enter into a forced collaboration in the future with the help of politics or some future strategy? You can not find sufficiently informed articles on this subject. Everyone suddenly seems to realize that the bitcoin price rises and falls and public information constantly sees the crypto traders as a group of madmen who risk everything for "non-real investments". But it is hard to believe that the old system does not have a plan to enter at the right time in all of this or that it's not realizing the potential of the blockchain. Why this delay? What are they waiting for? Is the global crypto market strong enough to undergo future interference by the great powers? (I remind you that at the minimum announcement from China, the market suffers big repercussions)

Binance / Binance system's vulnerability
« on: September 24, 2018, 05:08:03 AM »
According to the recent news from www.thenextweb.com, www.financemagnates.com and many more sources it clearly indicates that something fishy is going inside the Binance exchange. Selling of user’s altcoin without their concerns has created a scene of panic. Due to which Binance has suspended withdrawals for the while, things seems to be unclear until any further update. Does this ignite the issue of security among exchanges once again?

Bitcoin Forum / BITCOIN / GOLD
« on: September 24, 2018, 05:02:24 AM »
Gold is a valuable precious metal, while Bitcoin is a digital coin. But the similarities between them are deep. Both are mined, one physically and the other digitally. But if we look closely at the history of gold, the Bitcoin follows the same pattern of behavior that we have seen in gold.

Prices rose in 1971, when President Richard Nixon announced that the US dollar would not be supported by gold when demand exceeded supply. A major development in March 2003 saw the first ever gold-traded gold trader from the Australian bourse, behind Deutsche Bank. This has caused gold to rise from about $ 20 to $ 30 an ounce to $ 600 an ounce, an increase of 300%.

Before the advent of the first gold trader, it was not easy to invest in gold. But it was easy to buy gold, but at that time, the cost of acquisition and storage was high. But with traded funds, this allowed gold to be owned without actually owning it. Similarly, if the bitcoin trading funds are approved, this may be an important news for developers. The acquisition may be approved by the ETFs as early as 16 August 2018, although nothing has been confirmed so far.

In the past when this happened to gold, we saw a huge increase in the price of gold by 300%. If this happens for developers, this will raise the price tag to $ 60,000, which is expected by some well-known investors. If the price of this form is raised to this level, this will give us a market value of $ 1.26 trillion. So we're looking at 940% returns based on the current price of $ 7,000. As for the yellow metal, it has an estimated market value of $ 8.7 trillion with all the gold extracted.

In the end, investment is not without risk, but if regulation becomes clearer, it may help protect its owners.

Crypto currency Mining / Antminer S9 Maintenance
« on: September 23, 2018, 04:52:43 PM »
Hey guys,

I was a member here since 2011, but it seems my account got deleted during some forum migration.

Anyway, I have a quick question: I have an offer, where I could be managing a small Antminer S9 farm (with 20x ASIC's) in a different country. I would install Awesome Miner on a PC that is on the same network as the miners, and then remote connect to the PC there via TeamViewer or VNC.

My question is, would this be enough to maintain the miners? There would be a person that can power off/on the PSU's and check the ambient temperatures, but that would be all.

I've never worked with ASIC miners before, so I have no idea how often they need maintenance (and how often they break down)? I can go there a few times per year for cleaning the fans and stuff like that.

Cheers!

Economics , Sociology & Politics / Scientists developing 'X-ray vision'
« on: September 23, 2018, 04:45:13 PM »
X-ray vision, a comic book fantasy for decades, is becoming a reality in a US lab.

A group of researchers led by Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor Dina Katabi has developed software that uses variations in radio signals to recognize human silhouettes through walls and track their movements.

Researchers say the technology will be able to help health care providers and families keep closer tabs on toddlers and the elderly, and it could be a new strategic tool for law enforcement and the military.

"Think of it just like cameras, except that it's not a camera," said Fadel Adib, a researcher on the MIT team developing the device.

"It's a sensor that can monitor people and allow you to control devices just by pointing at them," he said.

Work began in 2012 to determine how wireless signals could be used to "see" what's happening in another room, said Katabi, who directs the MIT Wireless Center.

"At first we were just interested ... can you at all use wireless signals to detect what's happening in occluded spaces, behind a wall, couch, something like that," Katabi said.

"It turned out that we were able to detect that. And when we figured out we could detect that, we started asking more advanced questions: Could we use it to detect exactly how people are moving in a space if they are behind a wall?"

The device displays the signal on a screen, where the person's movements can be tracked in real time. It depicts the target as a red dot moving around the room, occupying a chair and speeding up or slowing down.

The wireless signals used to track a person's motions also can measure the individual's breathing and heart rate - and potentially identify the person based on the shape of his or her skeleton, said researcher Zach Kabelac.

"The person won't be wearing anything on them, and the person it's tracking doesn't even need to know the device is there," Kabelac said.

"If something unfortunate happens to them, like a fall, the device will contact the caregiver that they chose to alert" by generating a text message or an email, he added.

That makes health care applications especially interesting, Katabi said. But she also sees military and law enforcement possibilities - particularly in hostage situations.

"You don't want to send the police inside without knowing where the people are standing or where the hostages are," she said. "If there is someone with a gun, where they are standing?"

A company set up to market the technology, now dubbed Emerald, will spin out of the MIT lab next year, with a goal of marketing the device early in 2017, and it's expected to sell for $US250-$US300 ($A348-$A418), Adib said. The team is working to make the device smaller and to develop an interface that will let users configure it through a smartphone app, Katabi added.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Wait and See
« on: September 23, 2018, 04:43:28 PM »
Currently, many traders are taking a wait-and-see approach in the cryptocurrency exchange market, as it is unlikely for Bitcoin to initiate a large movement in the short-term. As it did throughout mid August, the market will most likely demonstrate stability in the lower price range, with BTC at $6,300 to $6,500 and ETH at $200 to $240

Bitcoin Forum / Sell car for Bitcoin
« on: September 23, 2018, 04:41:02 PM »
My friend decided to sell his car and invest all the money in Bitcoin as some people predict that 1 BTC will reach 500 000$ till the end of 2019.
He totally believes in it and tells that then he could buy not only a new car but a flat also.

Does it really worth it? He uses his car for his work and now he wouldn't be able to do this anymore as he thinks there's no need to work anymore.

Hey guys,

Shortly about myself, you can skip it if you want to the next text below:

I'm 22, trading for 7 years. Currently, i work for biggest bank in my country as a trader (mostly stocks), also, my interests cover: Fixed income and EM products, ETF's  and it's been 1 week since cryptos were added to the list.
Currently, i'm profitably trading for few weeks on poloniex - just getting feel of the market and trying to find how it works.

NEXT TEXT

My investment approach so far:

1. I only invest in alts that are comparably reliable;
2. I do not invest more than 10% in one alt;
3. I do not invest all 10% at the same time, instead, I invest 10%-20% of 10% per trade;
4. I am long term long;
5. I close 40-70% of my position at resistance, 40% - weak resistance, 70% - strong resistance.

Why my approach is the way it is:

From my point point of view, profitable crypto trading is in between investing and trading.
Difference between investing and trading is, that the investor looks for the long term value gain, when the trader is trying to get the best out of short term situation. In our case, best thing one can do, is to mix this two: Invest, and meanwhile maximize profits intraday.

1. I only invest in alts that are comparably reliable:
- Because i hope, that at least 1/2 of my "altlist" members have a potential to gain 1,000% + within next year - which means, even if the half will disappear, i will gain 1,000% from remaining half, which is acceptable for me.

2. I do not invest more than 10% in one alt:
- Because if alt coin will vanish, i will loose only 10% of my total balance, which is acceptable for me.

3. I do not invest all 10% at the same time, instead, I invest 10%-20% of 10% per trade:
- Because to leave myself a margin to buy more alts if market is bleeding.

4. I am long term long:
- As mentioned above, i believe, that most of my "altlist" - have a potential to gain 1,000% for upcoming year, that's the reason i am long term buyer and i do feel comfortable buying more when market is bleeding.

5.  I close 40-70% of my position at resistance, 40% - weak resistance, 70% - strong resistance:
- Whenever i see resistance, i evaluate it with my own scale of strength;
-- After i will close certain % of position, i'. waiting new High/Low to be formed;
--- After H/L is formed, i place limit orders on: breakout of to., support and next closest support;
---- I keep 60% or 30% in case if price will break resistance without spikes in strong rally not to miss momentum.

Observations so far:

What i've noticed, i'm not claiming that it is true, just my two cents, is that most of the altcoins are lagging reflection of bitcoin. let me explain:

Technically:
1. When bitcoin is going up, alts are going down and then follow bitcoin up.
2. When bitcoin is going down, alts are going up and then follow bitcoin down.

Logically:
1. People are buying BTC and selling alts, when BTC's price is going up, people slowly start to reinvest their BTC's in alts and alt's price follows BTC.
2. When BTC is starting do decrease, panic begins and last sellers are moving their funds from BTC to alts - which works as a fuel for alts to keep rising.
3. BTC has lowered, so it's a good time to buy it again, thus alts selloff begins and funds are moved back in BTC - which causes accumulative flat for BTC and bloody market for alts.

I would love to hear what you guys think about all that i have written above, especially about the observation of the BTC/ALT correlation - I believe, vast majority of you are way more experienced in crypto world, so feel free to write if i am wrong, i'll be happy to get off from the broken rails till it's too late.

Green markets to you!

Regards,

Nika,
