DeFi tokens / MKR vs AAVE
« on: February 07, 2021, 08:16:34 PM »
I wanted to share with you this chart. It shocked how quickly one protocol and overtake another and leave it in the dust...

MKR/AAVE (Maker vs Aave)

If you're up 5, 10, 20, 100, 1000x on these tokens, be sure to take profits before the next better protocol arrives  :P

In 2020 everything changed. In 2021 everything is changing. By 2022, everything will be different.

DeFi tokens / DeFi ATH for google searches this week
« on: February 07, 2021, 12:01:21 PM »
Interest in DeFi continues to soar this week with a projected new ATH for google searches. This would be the most interest recorded for defi searches since April and September 2020. Hardly surprising given that all DeFi indexes (Nasdaq, Binance and FTX) have already broken to all time high.

In comparison to Ethereum and crypto search terms that are moving towards ATH in interest, blockchain and defi remain at relative lows (16 and 9 respectively).

Will the trend continue, is this only the beginning? Or is interest too high and investors will soon lose interest ?

Ethereum Forum / Most exciting aspects of Ethereum for 2021?
« on: February 07, 2021, 11:39:40 AM »
It looks like 2021 will be an exciting year for Ethereum. From the 30x growth in decentralized finaince locked market cap, to CME futures lunch next week as well as beaconchain's launch in December last year and 2.0 to follow suit, it looks like there is still plenty to come from the largest and most used blockchain platform.

What excites you the most about Ethereum this year and why ?

DeFi tokens / Favorite type of DeFi projects?
« on: February 07, 2021, 11:25:47 AM »
The DeFi industry is currently worth over $30 billion, however notably 80% of the DeFi market is currently lending and DEX's.

Do you think this will change in the future?  Will assets, derivatives and payment type projects increase in value as lending/dex projects have?

- The payments sector hasn't even reached $1 billion yet, while defi lending is nearly 50x larger as an industry.
- The assets category has already grown from $1.5 to $3 billion since the start of 2021 alone.
- Locked market cap in DeFi has gone up 30x in the past 12 months

Welcome to the biggest DEX poll ever thread !

2020 saw the popularity and growth of decentralized exchanges, from Uniswap taking the center stage with currently around a third of the market share of volume. Only a year or so ago the likes of IDEX were one of the most popular DEX's, now only to be rank 34 among a competitive industry of 43 DEX's listed, while the leading exchange is ranked 14 overall among both centralized & decentralized exchange rankings.

The space has evolved considerably, even since December last year when Uniswap had dominated the decentralized exchange market with an incredibly 96% of total volume. Now fortunately they remain with a listed 43% on DEX Tracker and 38% market share from CMC.

DeFi tokens / AAVE vs TSLA
« on: February 07, 2021, 02:21:05 AM »
I was trying to see if anything had performed better than TSLA stock that has 10x recently, then I noticed this with AAVE/TSLA.

Currently AAVE is worth over 0.5 TSLA stock and looks to be making a full recovery. Random I know, but 10x on TSLA is impressive.

Also to note is that SNX is also close to breaking previous ATH to TSLA from 2019 after also slightly outperforming in 2020 (only just).

By comparison, ETH is worth close to 2 TSLA shares while also performing as well as TSLA in 2020 (10x).

Which defi tokens do you think will outperform TSLA this year?

I've been thinking lately why I've been buying a lot of altcoins this week and not last month, or a few months ago, or a few years ago even. Then I realised the natural cycle of events that appear to be occurring in the market. I've been waiting to invest in more altcoins, but am doing so with Ethereum.

Late last year, everyone wanted to buy up Bitcoin, as it went from $10K to $20K as well as beyond. After passing $20K, we saw Bitcoin's market dominance drop from over 70% to now around 60%, despite the price being back at $40K. While Ethereum dominance has increased dramatically.

Shortly after, next month in January (last month), Ethereum reaches it's all time high as the largest altcoin in the market. Today, we are seeing what appears to be the first signs of Ethereum losing dominance against speculative altcoins (although as well as Bitcoin today admittedly).

There are those who bought up altcoins with fiat last year, as they bought themselves Bitcoin, even if initially they were to lose a lot of BTC/ETH value, they would remain good investments for the future (if done on solid projects). Some of these are still down, but at new ATH against fiat at least.

Last month was when Bitcoiners were selling their coins for altcoins that were at enormous discounts against BTC (80-90%), the same tokens that had held their value against the dollar or even gone up 2-4x. Because one persons take profit level is another's buy entry it seems.

This month, after Ethereum's impressive rally from $500 to new ATH at $1,763, there are tokens that are looking very cheap against Ether or breaking out to new ATH, despite already doing so against BTC last month and some time ago against the dollar. Anywhere between 2-4x it seems.

The idea that altcoins can be cheap and discounts against Bitcoin and Ethereum (50-75% still), whilst at premiums against the dollar (100-200%), is exactly why these altseasons occur. There are still more investors who want to buy in as they see the potential from the different investment angle. The final ingredient for an explosive altseason is the increased speculation from traders from other sectors joining in.

The best way to illustrate part 3, would be the following chart. Note how speculative altcoins lost 58% of their dominance to Ethereum since July last year.

While it may seem like altcoins are over-extending against Bitcoin (possible they are), to see they are still down 48% against Ether:

Don't be scared to buy the high against fiat, if you're buying the low with ethereum  ;)

TL:DR

1. The coins hold their value from stable dollar buying/selling or get pumped by fiat currencies by new money (while they generally lose Bitcoin value)
2. Bitcoiners diversify into speculative altcoins for the satoshi gains (while they generally hold or continue to lose Ethereum value)
3. Ethereum hodlers diversify into speculative altcoins for ether gains (finally outperforming both BTC & ETH, regaining their dominance)
4. Traders push the price higher, newbie traders from other sectors join in
5. The bubble inflates as retail throw more fiat currencies in

DeFi tokens / My recent DeFi buys
« on: February 06, 2021, 05:52:07 PM »
Speculating on the defi market looks fun !

There are many interesting factors from the $35b locked market cap in both usd/ether/btc values as well as the variety of different categories from dexes, lending, derivitaves, payment and assets. This week I decided to put in a good 5% Ethereum into these projects, looking at the long-term potential.

Some of these are are at considerable lows against Ethereum (60-80%), others are breaking above there all time highs (or were doing so when buying them) and others have otherwise consolidated nicely it seems for another leg up. I'm not expecting any fiat gain in a hurry, but so far so good against ETH, even today  :)

Medium sized positions:
COMP
AAVE
BAL

Small positions:
UNI
REN
SUSHI
UMA (Sold 50% at 2x)

Very small positions:
MATIC
AVAX
ZRX (Sold 50% at 2x)
CRV
KAVA
SNX
LRC
SOL
CREAM
BNT

Owned before:
LINK
RLC
KNC

I'm currently looking to put another 5% in if this dip goes much deeper  8)

Feel free to share what defi tokens/projects you've been buying recently.

Voting / Will alt season happen this quarter?
« on: February 06, 2021, 01:20:12 AM »
Compared to the Bitcoin google trends that has begun to decline slightly, interest in crypto & cryptocurrency continues to rise this year:

Also unlike Bitcoin's google search interest, Ethereum reached an all time high at the start of the year compared to previous 2017 top.
Interest in searching for "crypto" is now at 71% and close to reaching all time highs as well:

Is this a sign that altseason is coming? Bitcoin dominance will fall lower and Ethereum and altcoins will continue out-pacing the no.1 crypto?

Forum related / 10K new registrations per month since November
« on: February 01, 2021, 09:34:26 PM »
What might be more interesting than the new Most Online ATH (currently 3,792) is the number of users registering per month since November 2020.

The total as of posting is currently 77,117. However only two months ago it was 55,669.

This represents an inrease of 21,448 (+38.5%) which is huge!

To put this into context:
  • By November 2020 an average of 1,504 users had joined per month (over the past 37 months since October 2017).
  • In December 2020 and January 2021, 21,448 new users joined, representing an average of 10,724 per month.
  • This represents an increase of 600% from the average number of registrations per month (1,504 upto 10,724).
  • The average new registrations per month is therefore now 1,977, in itself an increase of 31.5%.
  • This probably explains the increase from 2.9K Most Online ATH to 3.7K, an increase of 27%.

Altseason 2021 incoming?

Ethereum just closed yesterday's day of trading before heading into the weekend just below $1,400, a few dollars away from it's previous highest close of 2021, as well as few dollars before it's 2017 all time high. While Bitcoin move sideways, Ethereum continues to make records. It's difficult not to feel very bullish right now on Ether.

Also to note, Ethereum against Bitcoin reached the highest price today since August 2018  :)
Looking at the ETH/BTC chart, it's difficult too not see the enormous upside potential  :)

Voting / Fear & greed index drops below 80 for first time in months
« on: January 20, 2021, 04:30:13 PM »
While still registering extreme greed, this index shows that greed as dropped from the highs of 95 to 78 on January 13th as well as today.

Since mid November last year greed has been above 85, but now looks like may leave the greedy levels for the time being.

What do you think, will greed over crypto return soon or will there be a fearful period or return to the norm?
