Forum related / Captcha disabled?

As the title says....

This is probably the first time I logged in without clicking any captchas. I didn't even see a box.

Forum related / Topics with contacts (outside forum)
« on: October 01, 2020, 01:59:53 PM »
For reference: https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=66428

Where does posts like that belong to? I thought of reporting each of them to be transferred to incentivized posting or just spam but I'm not sure. I think it's not necessary to ask members to contact them outside the forum because it can be discussed here.

Perhaps it can be considered as selling their service and belongs to Marketplace (Advertise your stuff)? When you think of it, they could be offering a free consultation at first then sell products later on.

Forum related / Reporters Count
« on: September 29, 2020, 08:21:25 AM »
In relation to admin calling for mods to be active, I just want to ask how many reports does moderators/president/admin receives from forum members? Nothing specific, just average per week/month will do.

Forum related / [Discussion] Plagiarism Penalty
« on: June 27, 2020, 08:04:11 AM »
I'm really disappointed that there are still a lot of members (including higher ranks) who are so lazy to construct their own opinion and just copy-paste from other sources and claiming it as their own. Plagiarism simply defeats the purpose of the forum to have a genuine discussion among members.

Personally, I wanted them to be banned in the forum after getting two warnings but the admin has another thing in mind staying true to the idea that Altcoinstalks is a friendly forum.

The current set up is like this:
1st warning - Strike 1
2nd warning - Strike 2
After receiving two strikes, admin will remove it in exchange of 10,000 - 30,000 points. Aside from that, plagiarists will also get -karma from admin and responsible members.

I guess that also means they can violate the plagiarism rule over again if they have enough points to cover the penalty.
What would happen to 3rd time (or more) offenders who has less than 10K points? Is the 1 to 3 rank demotion still in effect or they simply get negative points?

I suggested in the "Report Plagiarism" thread that offenders with 2 strikes should get an additional one week to one month (or more) signature ban on top of removing points. Most of them don't care about the points anyway but they would be more concerned if they're removed from their campaign for being unable to wear signature. This is also a good counter-measure to plagiarists who has "friends" that offsets the negative karma given to them for copy-paste offense.

What do you think? It's still a lenient rule (if adopted) if you ask me.

Bitcoin Forum / Before sending bitcoins, do you....
« on: June 05, 2020, 06:18:44 PM »
...check the size of the mempool first?
...bother to check the transaction fee first (sat/byte or sat/vbyte)?
...adjust the fee or just follow the default fee set by the wallet you are using?

I'm curious how many of us here does this.

Like what the title says, I get this error everytime I try

Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again.

I'm not sure if this was due to the adjustments I made in the browser's settings.
Anyone having the same error?

Cryptocurrency Trading / Crypto News Aggregator
« on: February 13, 2020, 08:14:43 AM »
If you are someone who is very active in trading, you may find news aggregator webiste like this one
Code: [Select]
Website: https://cryptopanic.com/
Most of the events and news that are related to cryptocurrencies are probably covered in that website. Just a precaution though, not all news that will be featured there are accurate. It only aims to keep you updated to help you in your trades whether there will be FUD or FOMO. Use it at your own risk.

Sorting Box / Withdrawal Fees in one site
« on: February 13, 2020, 07:39:24 AM »
Fees from different exchanges vary. You may find some of them too high and it is better if you can find other platforms that offers smaller withdrawal fees. I found this platform and though of sharing it to everyone. Some veterans in the space might know this already but I'm quite sure many beginners haven't seen this yet.

At the moment, it covers 1823 coins in 73 exchanges.

Here's the website:
Code: [Select]

You can customize per coin

Ethereum Forum / Misconceptions on Eth 2.0
« on: February 12, 2020, 05:57:32 AM »
I think this article addresses most of the misconceptions about the upcoming Eth 2.0

  • “Eth2 will never launch”
  • “The transition to Eth2 makes Eth1 immediately deprecated”
  • “There will be two ETH tokens from the fork”
  • “All Eth2 decisions are made by Vitalik”
  • “Eth2 is a catch-all fix for the challenges of Eth1”

The most common on the list is that eth2 will never launch. Note that in the recent AMA with the eth 2.0 team which includes Vitalik, one of the devs is 100% certain that the phase 0 will be launched this year but no month has been disclosed. In case eth2 won't fully launch, at least the first phase will be done.

Another misconception that can be added I think is that ethereum will need to get approval from the SEC before they can complete the upgrade. That, of course, isn't true.

Litecoin News & Updates / Charlie Lee Proposed A 1% Miners Donation
« on: February 10, 2020, 05:40:08 PM »
Yes, you read the title correctly. It appears that they (Litecoin Foundation) lost a lot of money from the bear market that they can no longer sustain further development without donation. This time, the founder is following what BCH did which is to ask miners for donation. The difference, however, is that Litecoin miners won't be forced to donate which I think is good.

When you read something like this, you have question how this will affect the network's decentralization? Mining should be voluntary and miners shouldn't be asked for donations.

Crypto Wallets / Vulnerability in Trezor Hardware Wallet
« on: February 10, 2020, 04:56:07 PM »
This is just a heads up to all Trezor users and those of you who are planning to buy.

Ledger and Kraken were able to find a way to hack Trezor and steal funds within fifteen minutes. But for that to happen, the hacker should physically hold the wallet. If you are keeping it in a safe place, then you shouldn't worry about your funds getting stolen. Another option (and I think every Trezor user should do) is to activate the BIP39 passphrase. That way, no one can access your funds even if you lose or misplace your Trezor.

Here's the article - Kraken Security Labs: Hackers can exploit Trezor hardware wallets with only 15 minutes of physical access to the device

Like what the title suggests, Ethereum developers are "quite" confident but cannot give any assurance of the actual date to launch. One developer is certain that the phase 0 will be launched this year though.

Quote
Phase 0 will certainly launch in 2020. Audits are out and testnets are getting stronger every week,” Ryan said in the discussion thread. “I don't see a reality in which Phase 0 does not launch in 2020.

For the reason of the further delay, the team has this to say during their reddit AMA
Quote
the network won’t launch until three clients can run testnets consistently for a minimum of eight weeks

Regardless of the dates, we can safely say that the team is getting closer and closer. I think that's the most important right now. I'm pretty sure some will be disappointed but many will still be pleased at how the team is making sure they got everything tested before finally launching.

Be careful of the crypto-related facebook pages that we follow because some scammers are imitating them.

Here is how they do it to make it look legit:
  • Create a fake facebook page
  • Gather all followers of the legit page
  • They will share the profile photo of followers in the fake page and say that they won something (see image below)

The link provided is a fake website (do not visit)
Code: [Select]
https://sites.google.com/site/exmrfdnairdropprograms/

The "Get 2500 EXMR" will lead you to a fake MEW and the objective is for you to submit your PK (do not visit website and/or enter private key)
Code: [Select]
https://airdrop-programs-erc2.000webhostapp.com/myetherwallet.html?/access-my-wallet

They can copy any popular facebook page that's why we need to double or even triple check the legitimacy of these airdrops/giveaways. Please help in reporting the phising sites mentioned above to https://safebrowsing.google.com/safebrowsing/report_general/

For those interested, you can also report the fake facebook page

Philippines (Tagalog) / Crypto and the Gig Economy (Pang-extra income)
« on: February 04, 2020, 01:24:11 PM »
Seeing how some are interested in earning extra income from platforms other than bitcointalk, naisipan ko lang din i-post ang mga platforms na alam kong pwede pagkakitaan.

  • Gig Workers - independent contractors, online platform workers, contract firm workers, on-call workers and temporary workers. Gig workers enter into formal agreements with on-demand companies, for example Uber, TaskRabbit, to provide services to the company's clients. source

Base sa definition, masasabi natin na pati tayo na kumikita ng extra dito sa forum at sa iba pang online platforms ay mga gig workers din. Ngayong malinaw na, simulan na natin ang mga iba pang online platforms na pwedeng pagkakitaan.
