EOS Forum / Is POW safer than POS ?
« on: September 21, 2018, 12:23:58 PM »
Any computer system wants to be free from the possibility of hacker attacks, especially if the service is related to money.

So, the main problem is: proof of stake is safer than proof of work?

Experts are worried about it, and there are several skeptics in the community.

Using a Proof-of-Work system, bad actors are cut out thanks to technological and economic disincentives.

In fact, programming an attack to a PoW network is very expensive, and you would need more money than you can be able to steal.

Instead, the underlying PoS algorithm must be as bulletproof as possible because, without especially penalties, a proof of stake-based network could be cheaper to attack.

To solve this issue, Buterin created the Casper protocol, designing an algorithm that can use the set some circumstances under which a bad validator might lose their deposit.

He explained: “Economic finality is accomplished in Casper by requiring validators to submit deposits to participate, and taking away their deposits if the protocol determines that they acted in some way that violates some set of rules (‘slashing conditions’).”

Slashing conditions refer to the circumstances above or laws that a user is not supposed to break.

EOS Forum / Knowledge about EOs
« on: September 21, 2018, 12:20:00 PM »
I am interested in buying some EOS.

However, I think buying it is different from buying BTC, ETH etc.

I have heard about registrations and so on.

How can I gather this knowledge?

Thank you

Cryptocurrency discussions / How to evaluate an ICO correctly?
« on: September 21, 2018, 12:18:53 PM »
I have read many articles about the risks of investing in ICOs, but they all fall into the same, a thorough analysis of each must be done before investing.

I have seen a couple that I liked, but the evaluation when done uniformly, without seeing the specific offer of the project, is flawed.

I can not evaluate a fish for the skills of climbing a tree, but that's not why it's less than others.

What would be the method to evaluate an ICO, where its contribution more than technical, is commercial?

Was reading up on a pretty nice, ambitious and perhaps high-potential project based in Georgia. Learned many new things, for example that Georgia is one of the biggest mining countries besides well known countries like China, Iceland and such. Also their government is very pro-blockchain/crypto from day 1. This allows tech companies to be as innovative as possible. I for one like this very much, compared to many other countries where people from parliament/government are still scratching themselves behind their ears, wondering what the risks are (and missing the train/boat whatever Smiley).

In the Black Sea region there are many blockchain projects and also many cooperations and partnerships between tech projects and blockchain projects. They even formed some form of an alliance (Black Sea Blockchain Community) in order to improve relationships between all these projects (read more here: https://medium.com/spotcoin/neo-black-sea-community-launched-ff0d479d3bad). I like this wonderful start-up climate where companies are simply able to make the most out of blockchain, freely and without limitations.

What is your take on this. Does this regional approach have benefits/upsides many of those 'world wide blockchain projects' do not have? Or is this perhaps not the best strategy in a time where the whole world is connected and every tech company should be able to work together?

Cryptocurrency discussions / NEO vs Ontology
« on: September 21, 2018, 09:53:53 AM »
Which do see as a better investment opportunity in regards to end of year outcomes between NEO and Ontology? I follow Suppoman on youtube and he was very bullish on NEO in the past but now he thinks Ontology is the better investment opportunity. What do you think and why?
Personally i still see NEO as a powerhouse and due to it's low bitcoin price compared to it's previous position I still keep a significant amount of my portfolio dedicated to NEO in anticipation of dramatic growth of NEO as well as NEO gas which accumulates while holding NEO.

Usapang Presyo / Bitcoin preso ngayon
« on: September 21, 2018, 09:38:24 AM »

Cryptocurrency discussions / Real World Blockchain Uses
« on: September 21, 2018, 09:34:42 AM »
This post: https://101blockchains.com/blockchain-applications/ shows 45 areas in the real world where blockchain can be utilized in.

I noticed that in some cases, some great blockchains were sidelined. For example in the case of Social Media, Steemit.com was neglected.
Take a look at it and give me your opinions on which is true and which isn't. Better still, I will also like to know which blockchains should be in that list. Peace

Cryptocurrency discussions / Still confused with Blockchain
« on: September 21, 2018, 09:25:52 AM »
until now I'm still confused about blockchain, does the blockchain run automatically, or is there a controlling party ?. if eg automatic anyway, surely there is the creator/inventor, who is the inventor? , surely he knows more deeply about blockchain, or maybe he can control it.

After last years record of bitcoin, it came in the bright light an more and more people got introduced to cryptocurrencies in general. But after that the government officials and banks started to convince people to avoid indulging in the cryptocurrency world, be it any virtual currency.
A lot of banks have stopped purchase of any cryptocurrency through their cards and some trading sited have also warned users to withdraw all your money from trading and put a hault on any trading activity. They say as cryptocurrencies are highly volatile, one could go in great debt as reaching unprecedented heights is not promised to anyone.
What are the legit and massive reason one should truly keep believing in bitcoin and cryptocurrencies other than it being anonymous and it lets people have control over their money?!

Bitcoin Forum / Is bitcoin a form of gambling?
« on: September 21, 2018, 09:22:58 AM »
In traditional slots you pay a coin, and if a certain sequence comes up, you get some winnings.  I think everyone will agree that's a form of gambling.

In bitcoin, to create coins, you pay some electricity, and if a sequence of 0's comes up, you win some bitcoins.

Is this aspect a form of gambling?

And if so, is that illegal in the U.S.?

« on: September 21, 2018, 08:45:05 AM »
Hello All,
I am new here.

I have recently received payment in BTC from one of my russian client for Goods and Services.
I sold those bitcoins on localbitcoins to an indian person. He did an IMPS and transferred the INR equivalent payment to my bank account.
How much tax do i need to pay?

If BTC goes up to 8,000 USD in the near future I will be surprised!
I love BTC but it is F**k*ng with my head.
Daily volume does not support a higher price and without regulation and institutional investors buying BTC is extremely dangerous.
