Cryptocurrency discussions / Negotiation with government
« on: August 31, 2018, 09:39:43 AM »
What if people convince governments of their nations to make Bitcoin as a legal currency or what if we agree to give tax on our bitcoin income? Will government then make Bitcoin a legal currency.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Scarcity doesn't always mean value
« on: August 31, 2018, 09:37:55 AM »
've recently read a couple of posts here, and it became clear that people don't quite understand what ultimately determines the price of an asset or resource. Many seem to intuitively think that being scarce is enough for being valuable and pricey, or even equal to being valuable and pricey. This may or may not be true depending on another factor which is always at play here.

And this second factor is called utility. These two fundamental factors determine the price of an asset, but none of them taken separately can say anything about the likely price of an asset. Neither scarcity nor utility can determine the price on their own. It is their balance that leads to a price discovery through market means. For example, an asset can be as scarce as hen's teeth, but it still might be worthless. How come? Because being scarce is nowhere near enough to be valuable. To have a price, an asset should also have or provide utility.

In this case, utility means usefulness for achieving certain ends, whatever those can be. If something is scarce but lacks utility, it won't have any value because it is not useful for anything. But utility without scarcity is also pretty much useless for receiving a price tag. For example, the air we breath has absolute utility, without it we would die within minutes. But it has no price tag because it lacks scarcity. It is abundant, so having more of it (so-called marginal utility) doesn't add anything to our well-being as well as wealth.

Bitcoin Forum / Will Bitcoin lose market share?
« on: August 31, 2018, 08:28:13 AM »
Undoubtedly, everyone knows the name of Nokia, and, with its words, quality and performance are brought into the minds of individuals. Nokia was one of the first mobile phone companies in the world. In 1998, Nokia was able to rely on the royal palace of the mobile phone companies, and the largest share of mobile phone sales. But with the advent of Apple's phones and Android phones, the share of Nokia has fallen sharply so that they were eventually bought by Microsoft in 2013.
In my opinion, Bitcoin has a way that Nokia. Bitcoin technology is old compared to other Altcoin. Bitcoin was the first, but perhaps not the best.

Bitcoin Forum / Awareness is the biggest influence.
« on: August 31, 2018, 07:18:33 AM »
So we all know BTC drops when people sell their coins... but the peaking is purely because of investments...

The mall in S.Korea that started accepting BTC as of this month played a massive roll in BTC's growth. Obviously this is because BTC's awareness is growing!

Surely there are ways to bring the awareness of cryto to the population.

Are there any other 'blow ups' of crypto that you have heard of? Similar to the mall...
What are you doing to spread the awareness?  :)

Bitcoin Forum / Security

Someone close lost his bitcoin to some scammers who posed as an ICO project admin.
We have the wallet address but there's no way on planet earth to trace the fraudster offline.

Don't you think its high time , this is looked into.
There needs to be a way of linking account owners to their offline address .
This would mitigate  in no small measure the prevalence of frauds.

Bitcoin Forum / Who sells BTC now?
« on: August 31, 2018, 07:06:11 AM »
I have seen many threads talking about should I sell now or wait till BTC moons. When I see these threads I marvel and move on to check on different topics or threads because I know the person doesn't know what he is talking about. Diving more into cryptocurrencies, when you sell now it means you are a coward and don't even know the kind of cryptocurrency you are dealing with. One thing is that, its really kinda pity to see those topics raised. I have set a goal and until that goal is not, I will never sell BTC and that's me.I want ask that is it because those selling the coin are newbies and are afraid of loosing some small $s or they haven't read much about bitcoin or the cryptocurrencies or they have low knowledge about the blockchain technology?

A friend of mine had some Bitcoin on his phone a couple of years ago and he's lost that phone which stored the private keys on without any other backup. We can see his balance on the blockchain and he knows his password for the private keys. Is there a way of creating the private key from the bitcoin address and the known password?

Bitcoin Forum / Books like The Bitcoin Standard
« on: August 30, 2018, 09:18:06 AM »
Anyone knows more books like The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous? it was a pretty decent effort in explaining the bitcoin fundamentals, why is the best form of money we ever seen, the concept of hard money and the history of money itself.

Most books focus too much on the technical aspect but not the fundamental details and why it matters.

I would like to find more literature on this subject.

I hope that there is an improved version of The Bitcoin Standard somewhere in the future. It's good but I think it can be improved addressing some points that weren't touched, let's hope for a second edition. Meanwhile I would like some more books.
