My ether wallet is fine if you are using small amounts of crypto, however it makes sense to move any large non-active amounts to a cold storage mechanism like a hardware wallet. This way you make it much harder for someone to steal your crypto.

If your computer is compromised and you are running MEW then your money could be taken out of it.
