the reason why altcoin exist, because altcoin has many future technology and suitable for anything in crypto currency.
We know about smart contract platform, Defi and lately there metaverse and web 3.0 project.
If the altcoin projects are potential and popular, I believe altcoin will always exist.

It's true what you said, in Cryptocurrency we can only rely on Bitcoin. We need Altcoins to complete all the shortcomings of Bitcoin, there are many new ones in these Altcoins and this is what makes Crypto technology better and faster growing.
