When I got familiar with cryptocurrency, I have heard/read that Ripple was planning to replace Swift banking system and offer faster and cheaper service. That was in 2018. What has change since then? Banks still use Swift. What has Ripple achieved? Won trials. Won but lost. As I dont see any change in Ripple since 2018.

The bank still uses the Swift system because this method is considered the safest compared to using other methods. Ripple is a very high risk third party, which is why not many banks accept the technology developed by Ripple.
