Dollar cost averaging into reputable projects (BTC, ETH, ADA, etc.) is a good way to get started. Dollar cost averaging means you buy a certain amount of a coin on a regular basis... over time this will beat almost any other strategies out there...

Sorting Box / Re: Suggestion on altcoin to buy currently.

Like many have said above, ADA and ETH are sure bets. Beyond those there is DOT, VeChain, ChainLink... Polygon etc. DYOR, there are many established projects that will do well over time.

Basic Questions about Cryptos / Re: Hold vs trading what is better?
« on: July 19, 2021, 03:12:54 PM »
When trading, given that overall we make more of the right decisions compared with wrong ones (that is, given that on average more of our trades are profitable), we might increase profits over simply holding. The trade-off might be that we might lose on long-term profits we would have had, had we simply held the asset.

I believe at this point the only justified fear about bitcoin should be the fear of missing out. :-)

Bitcoin Forum / Re: Why BTC regularly comes down?
« on: July 16, 2021, 02:39:51 PM »
Basically bitcoin comes down regularly because when it goes up in value, it exceeds what the market feels is the fair value, then price action comes down, it gets lower that what the market feels is the fair value, then price action goes up... and on and on and on.

This plays out in the minute-to-minute time-frame just the same as it does day to day and week to week.

Nearly all money laundering happens via fiat currencies... laundering through crypto is a tiny fraction of the total activity world-wide... does this reflect badly on fiat currencies? not really... it might look this way because crypto is so much smaller than it could be in another 10 or 20 years...

These fears around laundering and crypto is analogous to comments about the internet in the mid 1990s, saying that the internet is for criminals and porn only... and now despite criminal activity and porn ever existing on the internet, no one thinks the internet is bad because those things exist.

We will see the same thing happen with crypto, no one is going to be worried about this these in time and this space is going to become as accepted of a part of life as the internet is to our society today.

Bitcoin Forum / Re: Can buy something with Bitcoin
« on: July 15, 2021, 07:59:15 PM »
Crypto.com card... BitPay... the new Visa partnership in Australia (offering direct spending of crypto on regular bank card purchases) are prime examples of how one can use intermediaries already to pretty much use crypto for any kind of purchase.

These entities (providing a middle man between crypto and everyday purchases anywhere credit / debit cards are accepted) have been and will be adopted far faster than the majority of individual merchants actually beginning to accept crypto directly for payments... although both trends will grow in time.

This is mostly because the incentive for a company like Visa to take a cut of a person's crypto expenditure outweighs the risk that a business would need to take when accepting bitcoin directly for service or product payments...

Bitcoin Forum / Re: July: Better Market for Cryptocurrency?
« on: July 15, 2021, 07:55:02 PM »
I'm pretty pessimistic, to be honest. What happened in China dashed most of my hopes that Bitcoin would rally much more this year.

While I can't in good judgement dismiss your feelings, crypto trends have defied all expectations before and a lot CAN change in half a year, not to say that they will.

I suppose time will tell.

Bitcoin's dominance has gradually declined in recent months and now stands at just over 40 percent. This enabled altcoins to rise in value. At the same time, ethereum's dominance has grown to 20 percent during this time. A little more and the dominance of these two coins can equalize.
If this happens, how could this affect the cryptocurrency market, as well as bitcoin and ethereum? Will dual power in terms of dominance be more useful for cryptocurrencies than the current monopoly dominance of Bitcoin? How will altcoins behave if bitcoin and ethereum show conflicting price movements?

Bitcoin dominance has historically risen and fallen in different times in the crypto cycle.

Bitcoin and ETH are different categories... One is a store of value and the other the foundation of Web 3.0. So either getting larger doesn't take away from the other ... both ETH and BTC will be around for a long time to come and will continue to grow. It's unlikely that bitcoin and ETH will show conflicting price action however their relative strength with respect to one another (ETH / BTC trading pair) has been changing.

Bitcoin Forum / Re: HOW CAN WE END THE VOLATILITY?
« on: July 14, 2021, 02:54:33 PM »
Volatility will never end, it will decrease as the total market cap becomes larger and most of the coin is held rather than traded (as is the case so far with bitcoin).

Bitcoin Forum / Re: Bitcoin Leading

I think it depends. The Chinese crackdown on the industry showed how fragile and vulnerable it is, despite Bitcoin's immense popularity.

This is true. A lot of bitcoin fans may not want to admit, but the truth is that the asset is on the risky side of the spectrum when it comes to investments and so it is affected by all sorts of things like interest rate changes, broader market sentiments, the news, and of course other world events like the pandemic. However high rewards often come with high risks.

Bitcoin Forum / Re: Your Opinion about El Salvador Bitcoin adoption
« on: July 14, 2021, 02:46:51 PM »
I think it is a good initiative that Nayib Bukele has taken, but I also think that maybe it has been a bit hasty. The population (most, not all) of El Salvador is not informed or educated about Bitcoin and blockchain, and that should have been the first thing the president should have thought of. My opinion on the Bitcoin Law is positive, but I think El Salvador still has months ahead for this test.

I agree. They are still in adjustment period like a Beta testing to determine the bugs (blind spot, problems) then will fix later on.

El Salvador could be the stepping stone to adopt Bitcoin and improve the weak part during and after implementation.

That's right. This is not a simple or easy undertaking... there will be hurdles, but in time it will provide a blueprint for others to follow.

Ethereum Forum / Re: ETH is the king of crypto!
« on: July 13, 2021, 02:40:27 PM »
ETH is the king of the smart contracting space while bitcoin is the dominant store of value.

They are both necessary. They will coexist and grow for a long time.

It is true that the entire ecosystem is driven by price action of bitcoin, however functionally ETH is the platform on top of which are built the majority of use cases for crypto at this time (beyond store of value), and the upcoming changes to ETH could potentially make it a deflationary asset. So all in all I am bullish on ETH and feel that while both BTC and ETH will grow, ETH has more room to the upside.

Bitcoin Forum / Re: Bitcoin vs Ethereum?
« on: July 13, 2021, 02:32:24 PM »
BTC and ETH are different classes of assets. Bitcoin is the most prominent store of value and ethereum is the most predominant smart contracting platform on top of which the majority of DeFi applications are built. In this respect they are different and they are both leaders in their respective categories. In my opinion given that they are functionally different, they can't really be compared to one another.
