I wouldn't even call it a bull run. The whole cycle, which ends in a few hours, has been anomalous. Although to call it anomalous we have to assume that in the previous ones there were some regularities, which there were, but they are too few data to be anything significant. At the end of the cycle we broke ath and I expected the price to continue to rise but it did not, now it is normal that there is a growth in the post-halving months but as nothing is certain I have voted for the last option 'Don't worry be like JJG and dca'.

Bitcoin Forum / Re: is $60k the floor rate of bitcoin after halving?
« on: April 19, 2024, 06:25:25 PM »
There is no floor.
There are no guarantees

A war  , a country ban, a world crisis   etc.. some events may force the price down to 50k.

We have wishes and feelings, but no more than that..

Right. People talk about floors because of those who draw charts and ignore the real world. Not so long ago the floor was considered to be the ath of the previous cycle but this very cycle we spent a month and a bit below $20,000.  It is normal to think that as the price rises the floor will be higher, but it is difficult to guess exactly. I think it would be better to talk about ranges when talking about possible lows.

Bitcoin only. Well and I think I have like $40 worth of Eth or so but I don't even count it. I'll leave it in case at some point I have to pay a gas fee to get some altcoin. But I'm pretty much a maximalist. I'm sure bitcoin in a couple of cycles is still going to be the number 1 cryptocurrency. The altcoins that are fashionable now may be gone by then.

That it is a 'sell the news' event I don't think, although I wouldn't be surprised to see some retail investors fleeced if the price drops soon after halving.

I generally agree with the rest of what the article says, especially the following:

Quote
that “we have limited data” with only three historical examples

Of halvings, and cycles.

But with the limited data we have and by logic, as halvings lead to a reduction in the supply of new bitcoins and the demand for bitcoin tends to grow over time, it is logical that in the long term the price will continue to rise.

Bitcoin Forum / Re: The halving time of 2024 is only zero(00) days.
« on: April 19, 2024, 03:52:54 PM »
The good thing about halving will be that it will pass and from tomorrow we will not have to think more about this one, seeing the effects over the next few months.

It is different that we reached  ATH before the halving, unlikely the other cycles.

Yes, but it was little more than that. I thought that having beaten the ath the price would continue to rise further before the halving.

It will be interesting to see how the price will behave in the incoming months.  I am also bullish and I believe that we will see at least 100k next year.

I am also bullish but we have to be prepared for surprises of all kinds (hopefully positive ones).

Bitcoin Forum / Re: SHOULD I CARE ABOUT BITCOIN HALVING
« on: April 18, 2024, 04:32:04 PM »
How is everyone else preparing for the halving? Please share.

I do not prepare. Halving does not affect my investment strategy, only that it is an expected event because it only happens once every 4 years and reduces the supply of new bitcoins mined. This I expect will eventually impact the price upwards as it has done so far, but normally as mining progresses halvings will have less of an impact on the price. I just hope that this halving will pass, that there is not much left and that I can look forward to the next one.

Bitcoin Forum / Re: ordinals and inscriptions
« on: April 18, 2024, 04:20:40 PM »
This is where the layer two becomes helpful for people who knows how to create channels on LN. The high transaction fee discourages me from selling my bitcoin, and helps me hodli, because I will prefer to wait till when the fee is low before I make any transaction.

The problem with LN is that if you don't want to rely on custodial services you have to open channels, and that is done on the main channel, paying the corresponding fees. Leaving aside even the ordinals, I think that the idea that people around the world would pay for their coffee with bitcoin in the future is getting further and further away.

General Discussion / Re: Reason why people do not believe in mining
« on: April 18, 2024, 04:07:35 PM »
Well, as you are new I will explain that many people do not mine because it is not profitable for them due to equipment and electricity costs, especially bitcoin and other known currencies. If you mine lesser-known currencies, it might be profitable today if you convert crypto to fiat right away, but it could drop by 50% or more tomorrow and it might not be profitable for you.

You seem to be referring to cloud mining as well, which as you say can be a scam but you can mine individually as well.

However, as a private individual in general it is not worth mining. If you set it up as a business is a different story.

Well then, we've had the same story for a while now. I think this is a fad that will pass, but if there are people who are stupid enough to pay a lot of money to insert rubbish images in the mempool, that's up to them. It pisses us off when the fees go up but it will piss them off even more when they realise that everything they've spent is worthless (unless someone hits the lottery, so to speak). It sounds to me that there was a similar fad before this that eventually died out.

Quoting Gyrgen from the signature campaign thread:

<...> if I have such a need, I will use this service.

I don't feel comfortable criticising a colleague but neither do I feel comfortable when I see such obvious mistakes. It seems that Gyrgen, apart from not having realised that the review has to be published here and not in the signature campaign thread, has also not realised that when we joined the campaign we committed ourselves to test the service, and that is not just accessing the website to see what it is like, but to try it out.

Even if you don't see the need to use it, you can do it just by using 0.001 BTC and you will only spend the miner's fees and between 1% and 3%. It is very cheap to try it out, fulfil the commitment and support the service you are advertising, even if it is only once.

Why not a more down-to-earth approach for a new generation of long-term investors who don't care about quick profits and only about protecting their money/investment value over the long term?
To me is far more plausible than a CB somehow making BTC a reserve currency and even acting to protect its value, I doubt  CB won't act the same as pump-and-dump speculators when it's the time to protect their own national currency.

And why not both? In the same way that there are many people who invest only in the stock market for the long term via index funds, I believe that more and more people will invest in bitcoin for the long term. But as for central banks, while there has been no convertibility of fiat currency to gold for many decades, the major central banks have reserves in gold and the Asian central banks are buying, although the Western central banks are simply holding the reserves they have. I think it is plausible that, in the future, if a CB decides to hold a small percentage of bitcoin for its reserves, just as it holds gold, other CBs will follow suit. Although it is clear to me that this will not happen in the near future.

Well, so far we already have the Jambler.io's ANN thread on the forum. We would expect a signature campaign to try to capture the best posters and maybe some more to teleport in. Let's hope this will be the case and contribute to further increase the quality and traffic of the forum.

Suggestion Box / Re: Mixers Board
« on: April 17, 2024, 03:48:19 PM »
There was no such Mixers board in bitcointalk forum and it worked fine, so why the need to create it in this forum when mixers are already visible in Bitcoin services?

To differentiate this forum from bitcointalk, for example. Some things that are done in BTT and not in this forum were implemented here, but we don't want this to be a clone of the other forum.

Not to mention all the forum ads and mixer signatures are making mixers very much visible.

I think all that, a new or renamed mixer board, as you suggest, apart from forum ads and signatures can make this forum stand out for people searching for mixers and privacy.
