Tokyo-based Rakuten recently purchased the coin exchange Everybody’s Bitcoin Inc.

The deal is expected to be finalized by October 1, 2018, as Rakuten purchased 100% of the company’s shares for 265 million yen ($2.4 million). The tech giant runs one of the world’s largest e-commerce platforms, Japan’s largest internet bank and the country’s third-largest credit card company by transaction value.

According to the company’s statement,

“Rakuten Group decided to acquire Everybody’s Bitcoin shares so that it can realize the early registration as a cryptocurrency exchange and develop cryptocurrency services to customers by combining the know-how of Everybody’s Bitcoin as a cryptocurrency exchange, and the know-how of Rakuten Group as a provider of various financial services.”

“We expect the role of cryptocurrency-based payments in e-commerce, offline retail and in P2P payments will grow in the future.”

“In order to provide cryptocurrency payments methods smoothly, we believe it is necessary for us to provide a cryptocurrency exchange function.”

Iran to Start Mining Cryptocurrencies in Three Weeks
Iran has agreed to officially recognize the mining of cryptocurrencies as an industry and the Central Bank of Iran, which oversees foreign exchange and monetary policy, will draft a policy framework for the industry in the next 18 days.

The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council of Cyberspace, Abolhassan Firouzabadi, told IBENA – a specialized news agency in banking and economy which is affiliated to the Central Bank of Iran – that deepening the use of cryptocurrencies is envisaged to smoothen trade between Tehran and its partners, especially in the wake of renewed US sanctions.

According to IBENA, Firouzabadi stressed that mining of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin had “been accepted as an industry in the government and all related organisations..” These include the government’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Central Bank, Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade, Ministry of Energy, as well and Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance.

“But the final policy for legislating it (crypto mining) hasn’t been declared yet,” said IBENA.

Bitcoin is still stuck inside its rising wedge pattern on the short-term time frames but is making another attempt to break out. Price has been hovering around the resistance for quite some time and forming higher lows.

However, RSI is pointing down to signal that sellers are regaining the upper hand and could drag price down. Stochastic is also heading south to show that sellers are in control, but the oscillator is nearing oversold levels to reflect exhaustion. Turning back up could bring buyers in and push for a break higher.

The 100 SMA is still above the longer-term 200 SMA to confirm that the path of least resistance is to the upside. In other words, the uptrend is more likely to resume than to reverse the 100 SMA also lines up with the 50% Fibonacci retracement level at $7,131 while the 61.8% Fib is near the 200 SMA dynamic support at the bottom of the wedge.

A candle closing below the $7,000 mark could be enough to confirm a bearish break and a resulting downtrend for Bitcoin. On the other hand, a move past the $7,500 area could indicate a bullish break. This could spur a rally that’s roughly the same height as the wedge.
