It seems like the capping of the maximum amount of USDT on Binance exchange to N1802 was just a tip of the iceberg. According to the recent information from multiple sources, Nigerian government has told the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to block consumers access to Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, OctaFX and others, in an effort to strengthen the falling naira.

Some persons claimed they were unable to access Binance on Wednesday.

Quote
Just got word that CBN has requested MTN to start blocking all crypto sites. While it may not happen instantly due to approval processes, it looks like it is on the horizon.

A tweet from Binance exchange
Quote
Only users attempting to access the website are impacted, although the App is currently available.  Importantly, all user funds are secure and accounts can still be accessed

The government is focusing on the wrong thing in their effort to tackle the naira’s issue. This won’t be sustainable because there are so many other ways to exchange crypto. Social media can fill this Peer to Peer gap. This will only worsen the situation,” Chimezie Chuta, founder and coordinator of Blockchain Nigeria User Group, told BusinessDay.

BusinessDay also confirmed the report by netizens on X, according to the post below.

Quote
Nigerians are lamenting this new move from the government. Taking to the X (formerly Twitter), many have started complaining about the Binance website not going through. Checks by BusinessDay (using the MTN network) confirmed this, too.

I don't know if the restriction has been lifted or it's going to be in phases because I checked at my end using Airtel network and I was able to login to Binance website and I don't know about other exchanges because I don't use them.

Are you having issues accessing the above mentioned websites? What do you guys think about this move by the government?

Can Nigerian government fix the exchange rate by attacking p2p traders on Binance so that the price doesn't go beyond N1,800? It looks like this administration doesn't know what they are doing. Even if they've success on Binance, what happen to other p2p trading trading platform like bisq.network, telegram and Whatsapp group? This is not a solution to the arrest the depreciating naira.

I don't think Bitcoin would touch $288k during the bull season, not to talk of 2024. Also, I don't think $100k is feasible but I think it may hit an ATH this year and push towards $150k -$200k next year to bring the bull season to an end. But hitting the $288,000 price mark in December 2024 is unrealistic even with Bitcoin halving and Bitcoin ETF approval.

Bitcoin Forum / Re: BTC price
« on: February 15, 2024, 03:31:40 PM »
Economist and gold bug #PeterSchiff has warned that the current #bitcoin price surge looks like "another classic pump-and-dump.

Your thoughts?

Peter Schiff has been saying rubbish about Bitcoin many years ago and it's only gullible persons that would take him seriously. I took out two of his derogatory tweets about Bitcoin in 2018 and look at where Bitcoin is today. I don't want to believe he forgets what he writes so easily but it's obvious he doesn't have sense.

"I know more about Bitcoin than anyone who was foolish enough to buy it, including those who got in early and were smart enough to get out.  Understanding the technology means nothing if you don't understand why it's not money."
https://twitter.com/PeterSchiff/status/1066508527785660416?t=Nbw5hBwvXXOYwO4_jmWGvA&s=19

"Don’t make the mistake of thinking that buying bitcoin below $3,800 is a bargain just because the current price is better than 80% below its record high. Bitcoin’s price could easily drop another 80% from here, and at $750 it would still be expensive!”

Are you willing to give or receive Valentine's gifts in BTC? Do you think BTC can become a meaningful Valentine's gift?

We can't only be buying cars, phones, shoes, clothes etc, for our loved ones on Valentine's day. Bitcoin is also a very good gift to give a loved one on such occasion because if kept for a long time it could appreciate and become more valuable. However, I'll only gift Bitcoin to a loved as that's a Bitcoin enthusiast, who's going to treasure and not liquidate it immediately. If I perceived that she's going spend it, I'd rather give her cash or other tangible gift.

If you enta shop rite or spar and u buy something finish, dem come show you option of payments. And inside that option, top 5 cryptocurrency coin dey dia. Nah how u go feel?
Honestly, I go dey happy say Spar or Shoprite don begin to accept cryptocurrency as a means of payment for their business in Nigeria because if big brands like that fit take the giant stride, other businesses, whether big or small go follow suit and e go help increase the adoption rate. But still on still, if I use Spar or Shoprite, I go still like to pay with fiat because I go like make my crypto dealings dey very discreet.

Wether you be a salary earner or business man, to dey save part of your income as e dey come dey good. You fit run into some kind of issue use the money solve am or you fit gather am use am do better thing for yourself, so saving dey important.

The 3 methods of saving wey you drop, I choose the wallet and bank saving. The Akaowo for me no dey reliable because sometimes the people wey you dey do am with fit collect and when your own turn reach dem no go gree pay you.

Forum related / Re: You have received -1 Negative Karma
« on: February 11, 2024, 02:55:37 AM »
There's a need to have who gives the -ve and -ve karma known to public knowledge and an example for such reasons is the negative karma given to op. If it is hidden, one can easily abuse it by witch hunting a fellow member or use it for his own personal gains. I don't know if this has been thought of, but if one has multiple accounts, one can use the other account and be giving himself +ve karma to make it look like he's getting rewarded for his contribution on the forum.

43
Initially, when I saw the topic I thought it was a new implementation by the forum's admin where you can get notified for karma received. But having gone through other persons reply, I'd say I'm a little bit disappointed knowing it's a telegram bot notifier. I know their hands are filled but we hope to see more changes, we wish to see who gives who karma and for the posts or topics for which it's given. If this can be done, it'll help to checkmate abuse of karma.

Oh may..
Watching this match was so surprising, the result is exactly very ridiculous.

I know that Leverkusen is now very increasing. But I did really think that Bayern Munich is the one that will win if we consider the composition of the squad. But in fact, Leverkusen was beyond the expectation.

Leverkusen was just superb, they completely outclassed Bayern. Who could have thought an important game like this, a team like Leverkusen would limit Bayern to just one shot on target. The home side would have made it five if Frimpong and Tah shots haven't hit the woodwork. For me, the ice on the cake was the last goal when Manuel Neuer went for corner kick in the last minutes of the game, Leverkusen won the ball, Frimpong drove a counter attack and fired a shot at 25 meters yard to make it 3.

Gambling discussion / Re: AFCON 2024 Discussion thread

Most of those fans are sponsored supporters club for example Nigeria FA sent over 30,000 Super eagles supporters to Ivory coast for our games. It's a common practice in Africa cause of the poverty rate. We love football but not all can afford tickets to watch it.

I'm going for over 1.5 - I expect both to score.

Not a bad one. Judging from the fact that the super eagles have been scoring in all matches in the competition, and have also been restricting teams from finding the back of the net with 2 goals conceded out of 6 matches. The elephants on the other hand, have conceded 4 times, scored 4 times out of the 6 games and have scored in their last 3 games in the knock out round. So over 1.5 and GG look very likely. However, I'd go for under 2.5.
