Ethereum Forum / Re: Gas fee on ethereum
« on: May 07, 2024, 04:20:07 PM »
I was about to do a transaction and the gas fee was very high! Any advice on how to get the lowest gas fees? I have looked at the heatmap, and I can see that at certain times and days, it's a bit lower. Any advice for a newbie?
Thanks!!

The best advice for a beginner is simply not to use this blockchain for normal purposes (transfer money from point a to point b)
All cryptans use it only for the most extreme situations and very rarely, it seems to exist (the ether network) and it doesn’t exist because no one wants to look and guess the cost of transactions.

Which blockchain would you suggest for a beginner to use?

Of course, for awhile, I felt like I was married to the heat map and checking in on it every 5 minutes! I was able to do the transaction at a decent rate in the end. The first price I had was 100 dollars and it went down to 18 dollars.

Generally, during the weekend between Friday to Sunday, there used to be a decline in most blockchain with high fees price, they reduce during the weekend because less people tend to use the network during the weekend, I think that's why you were able to execute the transaction but I was surprised when you said you first $100 unless it's a smart contract transaction and not wallet to wallet address transaction or either it might be a bump in transaction as a result of spam, weekend transactions fees aren't always that high.

Yes sorry, maybe I should have specified that I wanted to lock some dai into the DSR so that transaction is a smart contract. And the 100 dollar was a random weekday when I wasn't aware of the big difference in gas price..

There is no solution for this, just check diligently, in my opinion, because the gas fee will have time to be cheap, in my experience, it's cheap here, not like before, which was only 0.xx $, but at least it's cheaper than usual

Legality & Taxation of Cryptos / Re: Crypto nomads and taxation
« on: May 05, 2024, 07:33:41 PM »
Do you declare taxes in the country of your citizenship, your residence, or where you are physically located while trading? And which country is the best to be a tax resident in when it comes to crypto?
Don't you have to pay them all, depending on your citizenship etc? I'm not familiar with how taxation law in other countries works, but in my country, I'd have to pay whenever I trade crypto, which means I don't have to declare it as a regular income. I'm not sure how to answer if we don't know which specific countries we live in and where we are right now, since no regulation in the world is exactly 1:1. CMIIW.

Okay so you pay capital gain tax then. It of course will depend on if you get crypto as a salary (performing work) or as trading. Yes, the regulations are very different in the different countries. Some are better then others, and that was what I wanted to discuss :) The Nordic countries for example require you to show all of your transactions but you only need to pay taxes for specific transactions.

I know that in some Nordic countries, you have to show all of your transactions that you have made but only pay taxes on your gains.

and this is not what Satoshi wanted for bitcoin because satoshi wanted Bitcoin to be a currency to function but now this is an asset that had been kept for long instead of using as payment tools.

Yes it is the reality that people like to hold Bitcoin but they don't want to exchange it for another thing and investors of bitcoin have set their goals according to which they will sell their Bitcoin if price goes to their target value. Bitcoin can still be used as a currency if it become Widely accepted and if now people are not using it as a currency so maybe the reason is that there are certain limitations on its uses.

Actually when I spent some time in Guatemala last year a small restaurant accepted bitcoin as payment!

I think that crypto is the future. Just as it is with many things (sugar, social media etc.) its easy to get addicted to the dopamine you get from checking charts etc.

I think people should never invest everything they have in anything, not real estate, crypto, stock exchange etc. Markets go up and down all the time, and the bigger the possible gain, the bigger the possible loss.

I have just invested a couple of 1000 dollars and I too was checking my wallet and charts way too many times a day. Now it's been a week and I try to not be too emotional with any ups and downs.

So just like with anything in life, we just have to be smart about our choices.

Legality & Taxation of Cryptos / Crypto nomads and taxation
« on: May 03, 2024, 05:49:16 PM »
Crypto offers freedom for digital nomads but it also introduces complex tax questions. For those of us without U.S. citizenship—where citizens are taxed on worldwide income regardless of where they live—the question becomes: where do we declare our crypto earnings? With Starlink, trading or earning in crypto while traveling has never been easier.

But how do you handle tax obligations in a world that hasn't yet fully adapted to the nomadic lifestyle fueled by digital currencies? Do you declare taxes in the country of your citizenship, your residence, or where you are physically located while trading? And which country is the best to be a tax resident in when it comes to crypto?

Do it on weekends.

Currently, it's Saturday here in our country, and I tried to make a transaction on Ethereum Network and the gas fees when I did it is only $8. I did say the word "ONLY" because most of the time especially in the weekdays, the transaction fees on Ethereum can go to as high as $50. For now, that's the best thing that you can do if you want to make a transaction under Ethereum Network, but in general, gas fee on Ethereum is very high especially for an average investor compared to other L2's out there like Polygon, Arbitrum, etc.

My suggestion is that, as much as possible, don't make a transaction on Ethereum network if you are only transferring a few bucks or even a hundred bucks.

Yes, I realized that weekends are better so I will stick with that for the future. I also need to get comfortable and learn/use L2s

Okay, I will do that in the future. I thought that maybe I was missing something, and that was why I didn't understand the person's response!

@Freemind, it is nice you noticed such an off topic post. It is totally unconnected and unrelated to the ongoing conversation. Wow, super interesting. Thanks for sharing!!

There is a small possibility that your balance will be frozen,

Of course
very small  :D

Tether is not a crypto money service business.
That said, the point is, if someone want to avoid risks... better stay away from un-regulated.
Imo

The appearance of sexuality spoils the detailed content of the crypto world, which really has something to learn, read, make something new out of it as inspiration, such as a new project or becoming part of a team. I don't devote my time to such conspicuous things, as I said before, I don't like it. There is less fraud than last year, which is a sign of a good direction.

The appearance of sexuality?

Don't use any centralized services in storing your crypto and converting them to fiat. They always require identification nowadays.

What would you use? I have Kraken and they required pictures of my ID and info about my tax residency

Just don't trust anyone.
Don't trust anyone who tries to scam you. And don't easily believe in various sweet promises made by other people towards you, with promises of high proofs, high investment results, assistance, and all things related to requests to send a certain amount of money, assets, personal data, and especially foreign seeds. or access to your wallet. Just don't trust everyone in the digital business, be aware and watch out.

I appreciate it! Take care :)

Most normal people like to hide their identity but scammers try hard to hide their identity to scam people while governments consider everyone who hides their identity in the world of cryptocurrencies to be a scammer.

This made me smile, and you are correct
