Not your keys, not your coins, if your funds is in the custody of any centralized service and you don't control the keys, the funds is not yours, and that service can either get hacked or confiscate your funds for any reason. Store your funds only in self custodial wallets, and even when you do so it does not mean your money is automatically safe, your funds are only as safe as the device you store it in, so ensure you either use an airgapped or hardware wallet.

I don't know, but some may try to make repeated transfers for $9,999 to avoid reporting within 15 days.
That can be one way to avoid it if the situation permits. Take note also that it is the receivers of the funds that must file the report within 15 days, and this report would include name, address and ssn of the sender and also the purpose of the tx.
It obvious that everything about cryptocurrency is strictly under regulation by the US government. I am sure the Tax law is to confirm US readiness to checkmate every crypto transactions, and also get some benefits, that is, to generating revenue having seen the amount of money that is intering into the crypto economy.
This is what the U.S. government wants to do, they want to have some form of control over crypto and this is how to do it, through regulations and by fighting privacy solutions and tx's. Using crypto in the U.S. will keep getting difficult and it would be a negative to adoption.

Any one send sending bitcoin that period is sending high but I noticed something and that is what I will do if I want to send and the mempool is congested I will wait until the price is down.
You can wait if you are not in any hurry to make the tx, or if you are sending the funds to another address that is yours. But waiting can only work for a few people, so many users are making payments and sending funds to another party, so they cannot wait and they must make the tx. This is why i don't consider waiting as a solution to the problem of high BTC tx fees.

Privacy Coins Forum / Re: Will privacy coins survive?

With how the government is getting serious with its anti-privacy campaign, it is going to be a tough future for privacy coins. Centralized exchanges continue delisting them and it is now harder to use them in any centralized service. A time is coming when you'll prolly only be able to use privacy coins in p2p exchanges or in any form of privacy transactions, it is sad, but that is the reality.

I hope it stays down this time, fee rate also dropped some months ago, and we thought the spammers were gone for good, but they came back 'stronger', i hope the fee rate continues to fall until we can make tx's with 1-2 sat/vByte again (i miss those days). ViaBTC has also reduced its number of hourly free accelerated tx's from 100 to 20, so if fee rate spikes again, people will have to either not use the BTC network or pay the high fee, because ViaBTC will be almost impossible to use, except you use a bot.

Do you think it is a good idea if members' of the forum can easily change their display name (if this option is still available), i know it could seem cool for some members to edit their display name how they like and when they like, but if it is that easy, it could also be abused. Maybe it is better if only admin can change display name or if you set a restriction to it, I.E. member's can only change display names once in 12 months.

The U.S. and their regulations/laws relating to crypto keeps getting stricter, i know there is the argument that they are doing this to combat money laundering, terrorism financing and other criminal transactions, but they are also eroding privacy as they want to know everything about people using crypto. This new law in summary means if you receive an amount greater than $10k, you must provide the name, address and SSN of the sender.

Needless to say that there are many instances that you may not have that information, and the article points that out, for example, in the case of miners or people who use p2p exchanges. It is clear the U.S. government do not want people to use crypto privately anymore, as they want people to only carry out tx's through centralized exchanges and services.

Crypto Wallets / Re: Open Source Hardware Wallets
« on: January 08, 2024, 04:02:29 PM »
Not a user of any hardware wallet for now since i don't really think i have enough Bitcoin to deserve it, only have theoretical knowledge about hardware wallets.
I have heard people say this only to find out that they own a very good amount in BTC, but still do not think it is worth getting a hardware wallet for, i think for someone with > $1k worth of BTC, it may be a good idea to get yourself a hardware wallet.

It may be worth mentioning that you can also set up an airgapped wallet if you don't want to spend money on a hardware wallet, if you know what you are doing and do everything right, it is as safe as a hardware wallet.
