Gambling discussion / Re: Do not gamble in front of children
« on: January 09, 2024, 04:30:35 AM »
Explaining what might or might not happen if they gamble, how things can go, what can happen. Otherwise it looks strange to stop gambling only because kid would see it. It would be strange to gamble also without explaining why we do it.
How would you tell your children why you gamble though? Is it really wise to tell them when they're just 8 years old and explain that their parents find enjoyment in gambling? I'm not sure how it would affect their development. If they associate risk-taking activity like gambling, wouldn't they just use that as a rationale to do the same thing even though in reality they don't have the capacity (capital or others) to do so?

On the other hand, some reports show that the majority of children/teenagers who do gambling know that it is dangerous for them[1]. The majority of them also stated that their parents prefer them not to gamble at all. I'd like to believe that if their parents are doing the same activity, the chance for children to follow them will increase regardless of what their parents tell them. The good news is less than 5% of children in the research activity are deemed as problem gamblers or at risk of being one.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: KYC bad decision?
« on: January 08, 2024, 07:18:33 AM »
I think exchanges that require KYC verification are good and not just anyone can open an account because they have personal data... exchanges that require KYC are the same as banks where everyone who wants to open a credit card must collect their personal data and I'm sure the exchange will not mess with your personal data and not even misuse it.
What do you mean by good? Do you mean those that follow regulations or are registered, so you can sue them if they lose your money? If that's not what you meant, then I'm not sure what kind of exchange is bad if they don't ask for KYC. We've seen Kucoin or other exchanges allow non-KYC users in the past, and you can access them just fine. Some of them even provide compensation after they suffered one or two hacks, regardless of your KYC status. In fact, data leaks are likely going to happen more often if every service that you need to use requires KYC.

I tend to look for non-KYC options to avoid my data being sold or leaked, considering how sloppy most services are in regard to their database security. You can't fault people for distrusting KYC when there is a news of database leak from a major company like LastPass which contains sensitive data like users' passwords.

Gambling discussion / Re: Don't Borrow Money To Gambling.

Yes he is 100% addicted to it and he is working with a construction company which they are paying him $40 monthly though he is minor worker in the company and the money he is using to gamble a week is much more than the money he is receiving as a monthly salary. And upon doing something else in the construction company, he is still busy gambling whenever he is back from work and once he is back from the next thing to do is to visit the casino hall. Though I am trying my best to speak with him and give him some advise to quit gambling. Gambling is really eating deep the life of the boy.
Wow, so you're telling me he has a family and makes only $40/month yet he gambles more? That is seriously dangerous for his well-being and family. I'd suggest you take him to professional help ASAP or just force him to stop gambling altogether. How did he fulfill his family's needs with that much money though? Is he asking for a loan whenever he can? I fear that he will end with a bad ending if he doesn't make any changes in his life. This issue needs immediate action and input from a real psychologist or any expert instead of some random people on the internet.

I believe no cryptocurrency is banned in my country. One can argue that some exchange tokens like BNB are banned because their exchange is blocked if they don't have a registered office in the country, but as far as I can tell, local exchanges can freely trade them. No tokens are explicitly banned, but the government does release a list of safely tradable cryptocurrencies that need to be followed by any registered exchanges. This is good to limit exposure to low market cap/scam tokens, at least that's how they argue about it. I don't think there's any inconvenience following that regulation though since most of the low market cap tokens are not the priority for traders most of the time.

Many countries prohibit the entry of cryptocurrencies into their countries because they think that cryptocurrencies will damage the value of their country and even their country's economy could be destroyed due to the input of cryptocurrencies.
As far as I'm aware, most countries ban crypto as a means of payment, but people can trade it just like stocks. I don't think the number of countries that explicitly ban and will sentence people to jail because they own Bitcoin or other crypto is that many. CMIIW.

What happened to the Arsenal team last season, Manchester City experienced it at the start of this season when their key player Kelvin De Bruyne had his hamstring injury. That injury Kelvin De Bruyne had, somehow affected Manchester City's performance at the start of the season. But based on how good Pep Guardiola was, in coaching, it wasn't that obvious that they missed Kelvin De Bruyne's presence in each Manchester City match.
I think missing Rodri is more impactful for City though. Some pundits and analysts do support that opinion, although missing creativity in midfield is definitely not a good thing for a team that chases the title. I'm doubtful if De Bruyne will hit his standard after one or two games either, so they likely need to keep winning games without him for the next 3-5 matches. So far City seems to have found a way to win without relying on him though, so that's good news for City fans at least. On the other hand, Arsenal just can't score goals. It will be difficult to chase Liverpool & City if they fail to find a solution for that.

but one thing I have noticed about human being, the moment you start  praising them, they would start doing the opposite of what you want them to do.
They have been eliminated from the champions league group stage, and if they continue to play this poor,Ithey will find themselves battling with the teams at the religation zone.
To be fair to them, I don't think they are playing terrible games because they feel overconfident after one or two praises. They still play a good home game, with a ton of injuries around the team. I believe their recent slump happens due to multiple factors, from injuries, low confidence, other teams find out how they play, lack of bench options, etc.

If we consider the current performance of the top teams in La Liga this season. It seems only Real Madrid and Girona to have the competition for the title race. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid aren't in a good condition to join the title race. Will this condition continue until the end of the season, guys?
I think a decent team can cut off 7 points gap, so Barcelona is not yet out of the title race for now. The chance is definitely slim though, considering their recent forms and their bench options are not great. I believe Madrid is going to win this season if nothing extraordinary happens, simply because they have more quality on their squad compared to Girona. I don't watch all of their matches but the last time they were against each other, I remember Madrid scored 3 goals despite having less control of the game. Madrid has a habit of playing so poorly for the whole 90 minutes but managed to get 1 or 2 goals out of nowhere. If that keeps happening, Girona definitely needs to keep winning and score more goals than Madrid to win the league. CMIIW.

While Arsenal will be fighting for 4th or 3rd place if Aston Villa continue with their form and it will be nostalgia seeing the one time winner in the champions league again
I would not count out Spurs too. Basically, top 8 teams have a very good first team but lack depth, seeing how different teams like Spurs or Villa when they lost 3 or 4 key players. Just take a look at Newcastle for example. Other than City, I believe other teams need to get a little bit lucky with injuries unless they can spend a lot of money to buy squad players this transfer window. If they fail to do that, the gap will get wider and their placement on the table can change easily from week to week.

I hope Liverpool and Arsenal buy more players so they can compete with City. If they don't do that, it will be difficult to keep up with their form in the second half of the season.

But there is one side that I don't like, namely that Etheruem transactions will become more expensive and that will make us stay away from Ethereum L1.
Currently, Ethereum L1 has been heavily modified by L2 platforms such as Optimism, Arbitrum and many more so that Ethereum transaction costs can be reduced.
Technically speaking, you're still paying with ETH regardless of what the ETH price is, so it doesn't necessarily mean it will get more expensive. I would not be surprised if it becomes a little bit cheaper since people don't want to overpay and move to layer 2 instead. Just take a look at BTC for example. We're still seeing 20 sats/vb transactions nowadays even though Bitcoin is way past $40k already. The cause for the increase in fees is likely NFTs instead of the Bitcoin price increase.

579
So basically I'm so rich that I own a lot of ETH worth $40k or more, yet I do not own a single Bitcoin at all? I dunno, that sounds backward. If it were me, I'd prioritize buying Bitcoin first considering the recent hype surrounding halving and ETF is quite big. On the other hand, if I love speculative assets, I'd rather use my money to farm airdrop on a project like Cosmos or Solana. So basically, I'm not going to sell my ETH for Bitcoin, I'd probably use it to farm airdrops or buy many speculative assets since that seems to be my goal from the beginning. I'd still collect Bitcoin though, it would be stupid to ignore it altogether.

580
I think the $100K mark aligns with my expectations for this bull run.
Funnily enough, I remember seeing the same numbers on the previous bullrun. Heck, even in 2017 I saw some people claiming that $100k is their target. I'm not sure if any of them are around by now, but the changes in fundamentals are greatly different, and right now is probably the better time to bet if Bitcoin is going to get past $50k or not.

I remain skeptical though. I'm more optimistic about post-halving instead of any ETF being approved. The government or any big players can easily influence the market with it, while halving is always going to happen regardless of what they're trying to do. So if we have any chance of shooting past $100k, the reason is likely due to an increase in scarcity instead of ETF imo.

581
Seems promising if the numbers they provided are correct. I wonder how secure the network is though. Compared to other layer 2, it doesn't really offer anything new other than efficiency it seems. If the goal of layer 2 is just to provide a better tool to mint NFTs, I'm doubtful it will attract interest from others if the hype around NFTs dies. They seem to be critical of other layer 2 but don't really state what their plan is beyond ordinal too. Can they even attract interest from ordinal users to move to their chain instead of using the main network, especially when fees are not as expensive as before?

Bitcoin Forum / Re: Bitcoin hardware wallet
« on: January 05, 2024, 08:29:29 AM »
I was amazed to see the appearance of the Safepal S Hardware wallet because the shape was square, black and I thought it was very unique.
You can read some reviews online if you want to pick which one is the best for you. Personally, appearance is the last thing I think of when picking a new HW. In fact, an HW that stands out is not the best choice, especially if you plan to use it as cold storage. This is why I find Ledger's latest product appalling, it seems like they think people who want to buy a HW are looking for a phone and will show it off to others.

Bitcoin Forum / Re: Fee Finally Down below 40 Sat/vb
« on: January 05, 2024, 07:08:04 AM »
It surprised me a little bit to see a sharp contrast between today and last week. Just a few days ago somebody posted that he failed to send transactions with 20 sat/vb because the mempool is congested so he can't consolidate his transaction. I believe right now is a good time to do that if anyone consolidates their inputs to avoid paying a lot of fees when the mempool is getting congested again.

I checked it and you're right, it's my first time to see below 300k unconfirmed transactions too, idk what's the reason but i hope it will be much lower soon.
One of the reasons is likely people stop printing NFTs with high fees. I remember seeing more or less the same pattern when ordinal first became popular. The mempool got heavily congested, then got cleared within a few weeks after that, albeit the number of unconfirmed transactions is still high.

I think you should seek professional help to help diagnose how bad your friend's gambling addiction is, if any. Check with his family and see how he manages his money, and try to find alternatives to limit his access to money for a while to make sure he doesn't fall further into debt, while at the same time looking for a decent job that can take most of his time from gambling. If worst comes to worst, take away his phone/PC access to make sure he doesn't do online gambling. At the end of the day, his will to quit gambling is probably what matters most. A professional should be able to at least offer suggestions to make a better environment, while at the same time encouraging him to stop taking loans to gamble money. You should also stop being a safety net for him so he won't come to you whenever he gets in trouble.

What developers should do then is host their services where certain governments don't have any power, and there are several options for that. There are countries where, for example, the United States does not have the ability to close any services. But all this is the same as always, where some say “work against money laundering” I say “have greater control over the population”. No country should be the police of the world with excuses as stupid as that.
If I remember correctly, there have been cases where offshore services were being pursued because they still serve US customers. So other than moving overseas, the owner needs to make sure no US customers are using their services either by implementing a filter or doing a simple form of KYC. I'm sure the government is more than happy to argue that a simple "I'm not a US citizen" is enough to remove the responsibility of the owner to comply with their rules. This begs another question, why do some services host their servers in the US or somewhere close to it (geographically or politically), if they can be scrutinized easily? Is it simply because they live in the US,
