I am on the impression that there remains the need for regulations of the cryptocurrency industry all because we need to also protect the consuming and investing public from unscrupulous  and scammy people whose mission is to sow discord in the whole industry and make money for themselves. Of course, with the side of the government there can be that tendency to over regulate and choke the fledgling industry so there should always be that open communication between players and entities involved.
