Newbie of the Month Award

I'd like to propose a "Newbie of the Month Award", a newbie who has contributed more than any other newbie for each month.

There could be a simple way to acknowledge the newbie of the month based on the following data:

* Signup date must be the same month as award month
* Must be 1st step or Baby Steps rank, no Jr ranks and above
* Most achieved karma by end of month wins

The newbie is then awarded "newbie of the month" badge for the month Maybe even a karma boost as well?

They otherwise have 6 karma from 47 posts ( 1 in every 8 ), which is very impressive imo. By comparison, I've received 1 karma every 21 posts on average 

Not that easy to implement I realise, but it would be a nice idea.

4 posts, 8 karma, sign up in November. Not even sure why to be honest, 3 threads out of 4 posts though, that helps. 8 karma for 1-3 topics? Probably.

By my own suggestion then this user would win statistically. Therefore a vote sounds like a nicer idea

Many newcomers are contributing here. I have seen a lot of people add up here right now. Contributing to the whole new. They must be evaluated. But I don't know why people post more than that.

Thanks for creating this valuable topic. Actually last month, a lot of newbies entered here and till now doing contribution to the forum with good quality posts and topics. If this badge is implemented, newbies will be encourage with this badge.

Why you think this? Where #Proof?

Personally I'm starting to believe, finally after a few years, that this forum is actually welcoming towards newbies - as long as they aren't spamming or burst posting etc.

Each of the topics were reasonable, each generated considerable discussion. I wouldn't be surprised at all if only one of those topics got 8 karma. I already posted elsewhere that good quality topics that generate good discussion is worthy of 1-10 karma, and I believe this proves my point. My guess would be "Bitcoin is amazing". A simple but effective topic for discussion, it's not common newbies contribute value to the forum so quickly, usually they are just replying to posts trying to "blend in" with the higher ranks, hoping karma will come there way too. Instead, this newbie goes out there and simply contributes value, un-concerned of blending in it seems.

Also, that 8 karma is now on 9 anyway, I doubt someone has been farming karma to a new account, as the account is only 15 days old. This means that in these 360 hours, a karma issuing account would of only been able to give karma only 3 times. This means they would need 3 high ranking accounts to get 8/9. I highly doubt from this mathematical reason alone, as well as you'd expect a small farm of newbies with high karma if this was happening, not just one account in my opinion.

The fact that newbie has posted 3 "successful" topics out of 4 posts, is a great contribution to the forum more than anything and is worthy of consideration.

We cannot dismiss the possibility that there are still a group of "friends" sending +K to each other regardless of the topic/comment. Since Karma is "unlimited", they could easily create new accounts then send +K from their higher rank accounts too.

In the absence of transparency, I'd rather have post quality as basis.

I think the rule will change the admin, but time is needed. Our forum is very popular now. More people are needed here. I think if there are enough people here some change of rules will come with admin. So we have to be patient. However, the admin will be able to say better about Karma. Because our moderators are not given this power. Hopefully in the future we will see how the karmas are given. Then no one will be able to give karma in a bad quality post.

You too huh, you still think there are karma abusers out there farming new accounts? I had assumed after incidents with karma abusers last year this had been resolved, but I do see your point. Even just a group of friends could farm karma to another account of a new friends account, or multi-account etc. Now that the other newbie referenced is on 11 karma, I'm starting to see your point at least. Yesterday the account was on 8 I believe.

I guess a poll, voting on quality not karma quantity then. Also now sounds like a lot more effort

Not necessary mean karma farming as what I observed, he is potential new member and quite unique from others. If you notice his posting is relevant and informative for new comers.
Some newbie will dive to cryptocurrency discussion or bitcoin discussion or wherever to post not so much informative because they want to rank up easily. That's their mindset. But @Gostudio is different.  He created relevant topic for beginners to guide them easily about karma which I think important matter for newbie to avoid getting -1 and pursue to receive +1 karma. Clear he search, read, study, analyzed and post quality.
