Akon has been the newest figure in show business to join the Blockchain ecosystem, announcing its own cryptocurrency, the Akoin. Apparently, this decision seeks to support the initiative Lightning Africa led by the singer, and whose goal is to improve living conditions in the African continent.
The information was known during an intervention by the artist during the Cannes Lions 2018 forum, where he stated:

Also, Akon added that, as part of Lightning Africa, between its plans is also the creation of a 'one hundred percent' cryptographic city with 810 hectares of land admitted by the government of Senegal, specifically five minutes from the international airport, near from Dakar, the capital of the singer's native country.
