Star rating on certain threads, definition and purpose

most sections have no ratings, some key sections have
and other varied sections have for testing purposes.

What is the maximum number of stars than can be given to topics?
I was playing with ANN topics for signature campaigns and I managed to change number of stars that are shown several times.
One time after I clicked on stars in one topic and nine stars appeared from nowhere

@notblox1, the same thing happened to me a couple of times, so although I'm not sure why it happens, somehow I connected the number of stars with the number of members who voted - there is a link that leads to a page where you can see which topic has how many stars and how many members voted.

I think this is some bug in the forum, and admin should explain is it possible to fix this somehow.
It is not a big deal because stars change is not shown to other members, but I still think it doesnt look professional when this happens.
