@Mia Chloe, the way you expressed it definitely suggests something else and that's how I understood it - but if you mean using VPN + Tor then it makes sense because it adds another level of protection so that your ISP doesn't see that you're using Tor, and at the same time, you can make it difficult for someone to get to your real IP address, even if he manages to "break" all the protection provided by Tor.

However, such a way of using the internet would very likely slow down surfing even more, given that for many people surfing with Tor is undesirable anyway due to the "speed" of surfing.

I agree with the later, been using Tor to accessed this site, and there are times that it is completely slow and when the moment I left my laptop and then come back, it will be very slow to the point that I will have to exit Tor again and then try to re-login.

As far as combining it to VPN? doesn't make sense at all, it has it's downsized and obviously it's the speed. I think for me, Tor is enough for privacy. I'm no expert as well, and it might be hard to set up VPN + Tor, and if you configure it incorrectly, there could be some leakage and your ISP might see it.

What would be complicated there? You start the VPN and establish a connection, and after that you start Tor and you have done everything necessary to have a combination of VPN + Tor. Maybe some things seem complicated and people are afraid to try them, but a lot of things are actually much simpler than they seem - you won't even know until you try

Mia laughs. I wonder what could be so hard in downloading the genuine version of onion VPN, installing it in your computer or device and then proceeding to connect to the VPN. Obviously what would be left is to just download Tor and then make use of it for your browsing. I wonder why Kemarit considered it a technical stuff.
Anyways,as for the slow internet caused by the combination of tor browser and the onion VPN, it's normal and I have experienced it too. However I noticed that you can still improve the connection speed to a little extent with a stronger internet connection. I don't know if you've noticed it with the tor onion combo Lucius?

Fast internet will not improve your surfing speed if your traffic goes through VPN or Tor (or both at the same time), because you still depend on what happens inside the servers through which your internet traffic passes. It's strange that you still mention Tor and onion as two separate things and that you use the term "onion VPN" - I already wrote to you that the two are completely different and separate, there is no (as far as I know) VPN that uses onion in any sense.
