@Mia Chloe, the way you expressed it definitely suggests something else and that's how I understood it - but if you mean using VPN + Tor then it makes sense because it adds another level of protection so that your ISP doesn't see that you're using Tor, and at the same time, you can make it difficult for someone to get to your real IP address, even if he manages to "break" all the protection provided by Tor.
However, such a way of using the internet would very likely slow down surfing even more, given that for many people surfing with Tor is undesirable anyway due to the "speed" of surfing.
I agree with the later, been using Tor to accessed this site, and there are times that it is completely slow and when the moment I left my laptop and then come back, it will be very slow to the point that I will have to exit Tor again and then try to re-login.
As far as combining it to VPN? doesn't make sense at all, it has it's downsized and obviously it's the speed. I think for me, Tor is enough for privacy. I'm no expert as well, and it might be hard to set up VPN + Tor, and if you configure it incorrectly, there could be some leakage and your ISP might see it.
