What do you means by App store. Is it the application store for Apple users? Fake apps are getting common on App Store, especially since last year.

People can easily know fake apps. Only what to do is to check the numbers of people that have downloaded the app. If the people that have downloaded it are not many, the app is fake. Like Phantom wallet, I will expect at least 50000+ people to have downloaded it.

I prefer to go to a wallet website to get the download file or to get the link to the application store.

I used to trust sources like the the Play SStore,, and I thought the the App Store wawas good as well. But I was wrong. I have seen a couple of fake apps on Playstore as well. Unfortunately, when people discover that it's a fake app, they already lose their money. I use electrum on my android as well and I am glad that I did not installed any fake apps yet. This is another alerming thing you shared and reminded me to check twice before I install any app.

Phantom's official website only provides a QR code without a readable link to go to their appstore page. I think this is also a poor security practice, can't imagine what if their site was compromised and they didn't realize that the QR code had redirected to a fake page.

maybe they are just targeting newbies but people now are already aware of those fake sites and for some time now , there are no even one victim that I see here and in Bitcointalk forum.
which means one thing that this scammers frustrations does not bringing them any good .

That's the Apple App Store UI, as mentioned above. There can be many reasons why people fall for such a trick. For example, they don't bother checking the download numbers, and reviews, they are redirected from a phishing website that looks similar to the official ones, etc. There are tons of ways people fall for scams, don't underestimate people's lack of caution or stupidity.

The number of reviews is 1 and the number of downloads is low. It is true that scam rate in Apple App Store is less, but this does not mean that you download a wallet without checking the signature.
And if the wallet is closed source with a few reviews, it is better to avoid it even if there are thousands of downloads.
